It was not any more "known" or "talked about" than the idea that Callahan would be upset with the addition of Linehan today that was dismissed as nothing but the evil media stirring up drama around here.

But since Ryan is gone, it somehow validates that speculation. I see how that works out for everyone.

No Broaddus, Mickey, and Cahill talked about it openly on Cowboys talk. Especially about Ryan in meetings with davis and eberflus, and one of them sending emails or talking to henderson about gameplanning later. Thats what u wanted in Dallas?

Great point.

Why take players off the board because they don't fit your scheme if you're going to change schemes every year?

Do you guys want to complain so badly that you have to make up hypotheticals just so you can complain?

And this was all post mortem commentary after he was already fired. Which, like I said, per some people makes it far more valid. It is what happens when people are shown the door, they are badmouthed. When they are clearly failing when still employed, everything is "fine" and the media is making things up, darn them all to heck.

Man, all these "play callers", poor Romos head is going to explode with Caly, Liny, Garrett and Jones all whispering sweet nothings in his ear before each play.

Should be fun watching to see if we have to burn timeouts early in the second quarter cause we cant get the plays in in a timely manner. Man, we cowboys fans have such lofty milestones each year, sheesh.

So whats the cure for Garretts clock management, any help on that front? Is there a "clock coach" we can hire? Thats the biggest issue behind game planning/calling - sideline problems. Lets get em all fixed while were in a fixing mood.

Hardly. We had a 1000 yard rusher simply because we didn't spread around the rushing attempts as we have over the last several seasons. We ran for fewer yards in 2012 and 2013 than in any season since 1990.

Better personnel. We've got an anchor inside now with Frederick.

The organization does not have a philosophy or plan in place, we just have constant moving parts and ideas that we try to throw together each offseason and hope that somehow we catch lightning in a bottle for that upcoming year. It will never work this way, and we will continue to field a dysfunctional product every year until we get some real football minds to run this front office that brings in and empowers a real head coach that has a clear vision of what he wants to build and knows how to get there.

Yes i think firing Ryan was a good idea. The guy wouldnt even talk to his DB coach anymore. This was all known and talked about. And yes i think bringing in Linehan will be a good thing. bring back a more vertical passing game will do wonders.

Ryan turned the worst defense to ever play in the NFL into a top ten defense in one season. Firing him and going to a 4-3 was not smart. If the reports about him bein late for meetings were true then yeah fire him if its really beyond repair.. But going to a 4-3 was not a good idea anyway you want to look at it. It blew our chances of being contenders. If we were rebuilding then okay that's fine.. But Romo's window of opportunity is closing, if not completely shut.

Philosophies remain the same just different play caller. If he can help utilize dez then great, but I don't think he's some offensive genius that's going to get us over the hump.

Exactly theres a reason why he's never been a Hc and probably never will be. With the job he did in NO this yr with the defense how many interviews did he get? Thats right none.

IF this is the coaches call, I'm cool with it because his staff should be his call. Hire anyone he wants or thinks can help him succeed and Fire anyone that hinders his vision. Often times Jerry gets involved and derails this process, and that's why we have a dysfunctional organizational structure

According to ESPN..

Garrett knows him from Miami.

Apparently,

Linehan hired him in Miami..

and now Garrett is returning the favor by hiring him.

This is a good hire.

Couldn't care less about Callahan.

That was a Jerrah hire.

I understand Garrett doesn't have a lot of connections across the NFL.

So Jerrah has tried to help.

But its time to let Jason succeed or fail now.

Let him have some guys he can trust and who trust him.

@fishsports: Scott Linehan's time at Valley Ranch has moved beyond 'interview stage.' Presence in #Cowboys coaching wing suggests closing in on done deal

I can see it now. Garrett, Linehan, and Callahan playing rock, paper, scissors to decide who calls each offensive play. Meanwhile, Romo is standing on the field waiting for the play and getting mad because he want have time to run around behind the offensive lineman yelling Kill, Kill, Kill and doing his best imitation of Peyton Manning.

No context bc idk the run to pass ratio of those years... Here's a stat that can't be argued:

5.2 ypc for Murray. A lot of that had to do with the zone blocking scheme being successful.

But yet Mike Zimmer was just misunderstood?

His own brother went through the same situation trying to secure employment as a head coach. What that says about his tenure in Dallas, I have no idea.

I guess in New Orleans he suddenly decided to speak to his DB coach and run meetings personally? Must have learned his lesson then, I guess.
