Pacman Jones-DB-Titans Apr. 3 - 1:14 am et

The Titans and Cowboys are close to agreeing to compensation in a Pacman Jones trade, but remain at odds about bonus money in Jones' rookie contract.
Tennessee is seeking "several million" as a return on the bonus money included in his 2005 deal. The Titans could also file a grievance with the NFL. This is holding up the trade that still seems likely to send Jones to Dallas. Other teams throwing their hat in doesn't appear to be the problem.

Well they can file that with the NFL, we have nothing to do with any bonus money that they want back. They are just plain stupid if they think we will pay them back the bonus money.

File a grievance for what? They gave the man's agent permission to seek a trade. The man himself became vocal about playing in Dallas. Dallas did not pursue him until he was officially on the market.

I don't get how they have been wronged. Because they don't like the offer? Then don't take it.

I read it to mean a grievance against Jones to get a portion of the bonus money returned. Probably because he didn't play last year.

All of this nonsense from the Titans makes me think that Bud Adams is still sore about being the 'redheaded stepchild of Texas'.......

I don't see what this has to to with us. Accept the trade and get your own finances in order later, Titans. If they can't get the money back, what does that mean, that they'd keep him and let him play all of a sudden?

I agree.

Unless they would lose their ability to recoup bonus money by trading him.

And if that's the case, why didn't they think of this before?

I didn't see a link, who's the source? I think the Titans are looking for a buyout for his contract. Not just taking on the unpaid salaries, but having the cowboys buy out part of his bonus. Of course, that's a pretty big sticking point I imagine. Cap ramifications and having to pay out "several million" out of pocket for somebody who may not even play and then isn't the best chance to stay in the league. I know Jerry's rich and all, but he doesn't want to just throw millions away either.

Right, he's not Danny.

If I was a betting man (and I am actually), I would think Jerry said we'll give you a solid sixth rounder and *insert trade bait player's name* no matter what happens. The Titans said, no, keep it, we would rather have a conditional (if he gets playing time) 3rd rounder. Jerry said, I'll give you a 5th and the player above, the titans countered saying they'd do that if Jerry bought out the bonus (which basically means taking all or part of the cap hit on and actually paying the Titans the amount). There is a precedent for this, the Bears bought out $5M of Archuleta's bonus last year.

I understand where both are coming from. Jerry thinks if I'm willing to risk something and the titans make out no matter what happens, it's worth it. The titans want conditional compensation saying if Pacman can actually contribute, they want fair compensation for that contribution. If he can't, they don't mind getting considerably less. Just my view of the situation.

they know that if they file a grievance over the SB they will lose and so now they are pulling this garbage. its like dealing with an angry woman.

We are trading for the player even with all his personal baggage. It is not our responsibility to clean up their mess. That they paid him the SB and drafted him so high is THEIR PROBLEM, not ours.

If we were to trade Akin Ayodele, would we tell the team that we are trading him to to recoup some of his signing bonus? No, that would be stupid.

The level of incompetence from the Titans organization is staggering. There is someone within that organization that is operating on an emotional basis. Demanding your sunk costs be repaid in a market transaction is stupid.

We can wait this out easily and there are no ramifications for us if this deal gets done now or next month. they lose out on draft picks in this years draft and we dont have to pay with this years draft picks is the only difference. Jones cannot participate in club activities until at least July so why should we care?

I would tell them that we will be more than willing to negotiate once they pull their heads out of their backsides and decide to exist in the real world. This world where the Titans demand us to clean up their mess after giving them a fair deal for what Jones is worth status quo in this market just isn't going to work

Throwing bad money after bad is so accepted to make it a cliche now in terms of Snyder I don't know what his problem is.

why would we pay the Titans bonus $. If anyone owe's them money its Pacman not the team that is trading for him

this should be self evident. OTOH they cannot sue him for anything other than roster bonuses which as far as i know he had none. SB are untouchable and its why Vick got screwed because he converted some SB into roster bonus and Blank went after it.

Maybe they meant a grievance with the NFL to somehow get money back from his bonus with help of the players union--not sure.
