1. This offensive line injury situation is getting serious: Left guard Nate Livings missed Thursday's practice with a sore right knee and was administered an MRI exam. The Cowboys fear Livings could be sidelined for a while. By early afternoon, Dallas had cut DE Cameron Sheffield and CB Devin Smith so they could sign former TCU guard Jeff Olson and UTEP tackle James Nelson. Before both players had been acquired the Cowboys had only four healthy interior linemen on the roster.

Hate to see Sheffield go. Wouldn't be surprised to see him come back later. I gather Nelson's an OG conversion from college OT?

Ronald Leary took his spot as starting left guard, with Nate Livings out. Leary was solid in pass protection, part of a line which again gave Tony Romo time to stand in the pocket and work his progressions. With the exception of a defensive red zone drill, where the offense tried unsuccessfully to move the ball forward from its own 2-yard line, the line did its job.

It also started creating more run creases for the back, both to the left and right, and inside and outside. The emerging Joseph Randle popped free on a nifty play which might show up in the game. The offense put both tight ends on one side and ran Randle on a counter away from the power, with the flanker running a fake reverse to the same side behind him. The high-low reverse run action popped Randle clear.

I heard earlier this week, before Nate Livings' knee woes, that the front office hoped that Leary would win the left guard role. Leary is now running with the ones. With the other four starters, Smith, Frederick, Arkin and Free all working together from day one, the line is light years ahead of the '12 bunch, which did not get its projected starters on the field together until the last days of the preseason, and just as quickly lost them to injury.

The OP has been posted a few times already about Livings knee, but your second post just above me here showcases the fact that people have beeen completely overreacting to the OL tweets from earlier. Funny stuff.

What stuck out to me was the completely different takes that were coming out. One from a news site and the other from a fan site.

They weren't different takes, if you read into it.

The sacks were almost ALL allowed during the defensive red zone drill where the offense was backed up to its own 2 yard line.

The entire rest of the practice, the OL did well in opening up lanes for the run game and giving Romo plenty of time to go through his progression.

That was what was reported.. just so happens with "tweets" you can't get that kind of info so it looks like the OL was giving up sacks all day, when they were not.
