Here is an article about next year's class of Cowboy's free agents?

https://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/lists/cowboys-2024-free-agency-preview/

Is there any preemptive moves you would make?

And before it happens don't bother with the "let's enjoy the 2023 season at least first", just save it. You're the one that clicked on a thread with a very clear title as to what the topic was going to be.

That is a lot of big-named starters and while things like the 5th-year option for Lamb and a franchise tag are in play, while some players like Tyron Smith may be gone, how Dallas does in the draft this season to fill some holes early on will be telling.

Diggs going to get payed.
Lamb going to get payed.
The only preemptive move to make at this point is to try and draft their replacement on a rookie contract.
Easier said than done.

I’d expect extensions of some sort for Diggs, Lamb, and Steele. Not sure what to do about Kearse or Hooker. Theoretically safeties are replaceable, but you can always keep the cheaper of the two and let the other go. Pollard can walk, and so can the rest of the FAs.

This is why they have to consider positions that might not be priority needs, but lowers future costs. Corner, Pass rusher are blinking red lights in 2024

Or we could extend each of them now?
Well yes, but thought we were including capenomics in relation to this point in the timeline.
The cheapest way to remain relevant is to always draft well, and let top contracts walk if you can replace with rooks contracts that can perform and replace.
That is the dream scenario, but highly unrealistic.
Philly is trying their best to do it with draft stock, knowing they will be under the same situation with Hurts banging their cap shortly.
You have to believe in your war room, talent evaluation, and draft annually really well in order to stay competitive in todays high/overpriced priced NFL.

Would hate seeing Kearse leave, would keep him above any other safety when it comes to that. He is a vital cog in Qs scheme, but if a guy like Makuamu allows Kearse departure than so be it, its the nature of the game.

You extend them to help with capenomics.

If you extend CD or Diggs now at $30M/year, you are spreading those cap figures over 2 additional years for CD(5th year option) and 1 additional year for Diggs.

I'd like us to try and extend both along with Steele and Hooker prior to the season.

5th-year rookie option for Lamb (based on 1 Pro Bowl selection and using 2023 numbers) would be $19.7M

Diggs is currently estimated to have a market value of $15.4M annually and the franchise tag for CB's projected for 2024 is $20.4M

So, hypothetically if extensions are not done this season for either player Dallas (if using the 5th-year rookie contract for Lamb and franchise tag for Diggs) is looking at a combined $40.1M for both players hitting the 2024 salary cap....and that does not even include what Dallas will do about Tony Pollard who is under a 1-year franchise tag for 2023.

While restructures may be on the horizon for some players (Dak has a $59.4M cap hit for 2024, Zack Martin has a $23.3M cap hit in 2024, DLaw has a $20.4M cap hit for 2024) Dallas also has the likes of Micah Parsons on the horizon as his 5th-year rookie option is in 2025.

Needless to say this will be a very interesting season for Dallas in terms of on the field success as well as player decisions moving forward.

Gonna be honest…..they can afford to lose all those guys except Lamb, Diggs, Biadacz, Steele. Now personally I’d add Kearse to the list, Hooker(he’s expendable with Israel IMO), and Dorance….but mostly those guys can be replaced and will be with this draft I'm sure.

This is why people say you can never have too many linemen or rushers because all it takes is a year and you will need them.

Guys like Kearse, Hooker, Gilmore and Tyron are probably gone in 2024. Guys like Diggs, Lamb and Steele will get paid.

Gallup will need a big year or I see him getting cut next off-season.

Biggest question mark is Pollard but I just can’t see the team paying him long term after getting burned by the Zeke deal.

I don't know about diggs anymore. He got better this year but he might have some quit in him. He seems to only play motivated when challenged.

We need to get lucky and an OG fall to us this draft, signing Diggs and Lamb wont kill us as that was in the plan anyways. NOW if a cant miss guy drops to you in the draft then yeah do it and trade the contract guy for as much draft capitol as you can get before the second contract.

If you think Dak is going to cost 59 million you are kidding yourself. Just like he didnt cost us that much this year when it was projected.

I see Pollard gone after this year. They will draft a back with a top 3 pick and team him with Pollard to develop this year and unless things go horribly wrong, this will be Pollards last year.
