The point you failed to mention is IF a corner goes down for NYG, can Collins drop down and play corner?

Also IF, and that is a big IF at this point, Gregory could stay on the field I think he would be just as productive.
I conceded he's a versatile player in the post you quoted. I'd still take Collins ability to get turnovers and flip the field over that versatility. If Byron Jones showed a little more ball hawking ability then the argument would be in his favor.

We were loaded with Landon Collins type safeties? Just because Church/Wilcox occasionally bring the boomstick, doesn't mean they're in the same class. That's an unfair comparison to Collins who has 5 interceptions, 5 sacks, and a touchdown this year. When was the last time a Cowboys DB had that type of impact in a season? Collins is precisely why the Giants remained competitive despite an having an anemic offense the entire season. He's a difference maker. Jones, for all his talents, isn't.
You are trying to compare two completely different players, in two completely different schemes, with two completely different roles in Jones/Collins. I'd love to have Collins on this defense, but switching him out for Byron Jones doesn't mean this defense is going to be any better. Byron Jones is a difference maker he just does it by taking away parts of the field over creating turnovers. Outside of Sean Lee, Byron Jones might be the most important piece to this defense. Go back and look at the 2014 defense when Carr & Claiborne were getting burnt week by week. Add a true FS to play over top and and our CBs (Granted Anthony Brown deserves credit as well) have been a strong point for this team.

I don't want Collins over Jones, speak for yourself

Erm, he is turning into a superstar. He is sideline to sideline plays coverage and the run really well. The only thing Jones does better is cover tight ends probably

Not going to debate I have many reasons but I'm happy with Jones at FS and wouldn't want SS Collins instead.

Jones....Church/Wilcox better then

.........Collins and nobody

Did you have the same comments for the dozen or so threads about 2007 the last 72 hours? If this thread brings you down then you need tougher skin. Guarantee you the organization does this type of self-evaluation all the time.

I never said it brings me down...I said some only want to post negative stuff and that you are acting like a debbie downer instead of enjoying the current season and it has NOTHING to do with what the team evaluates.

I am pretty darn sure they are not sitting at the Star right now saying...man that 2015 draft is killing us right now...no they are working on game plans and personnel for the up coming games.

So spare me.

Since 2014 look at this list of players........

C. J. Mosley
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Cyrus Kouandjio
Kevin Norwood
Ed Stinson
AJ McCarron
Vinnie Sunseri
Jeoffrey Pagan
Amari Cooper
Landon Collins
T. J. Yeldon
Jalston Fowler
Arie Kouandjio
Austin Shepherd
Xzavier Dickson
Ryan Kelly
Reggie Ragland
Derrick Henry
A'Shawn Robinson
Jarran Reed
Cyrus Jones
Just naming a bunch of players from that school doesn't make them all good players. In terms of number of players in the NFL, Clemson has a similar number of players drafted since 2014. Should we draft a Clemson player ever year? In fact, only one player drafted in that span (Tajh Boyd) is not currently on an active NFL roster.

Sammy Watkins
Brandon Thomas
Bashaud Breeland
Martavis Bryant
Tajh Boyd
Vic Beasley
Stephone Anthony
Grady Jarrett
Bradley Pinion
Tony Steward
Shaq Lawson
Kevin Dodd
Mackenzie Alexander
TJ Green
BJ Goodson
DJ Reader
Charone Peake
Jayron Kearse
Zack Brooks
Hunter Renfrow
Jaron Brown

The last three were UDFAs in these time frame.

Five spots after Byron Jones, another safety Landon Collins was selected. Collins is a DPOY candidate and has 6 career INTs.

In the 2nd round, three spots after Randy Gregory another DE, Frank Clark was selected. Clark has 13 career sacks.

A littler perspective is needed when we dissect the hell out of a clip of Gregory running down a RB 7 yds down the field or when we fawn over Jones' versatility. Both players are getting severely outplayed by lesser picks at their same position.
fantastic....awsome. can you please look into your crystal ball and tell us who the next DPOY candidate will be in this up coming draft and how many sacks we should expect from any of the 2nd round picks at DE? highly appreciate it if you could just take a peak into your crystal all for us. thanks much

Collins made some pretty good plays this year, but it sure seemed like alot of his INT were tipped or batted balls that fell right to him. He's good, but no where near DPOY, IMO.

I'm will to give Jones more time playing FS before I start choosing which one I'd prefer.

Clark > Gregory, but heck you can do that with almost any draft...well except for our 2016 draft

Relative to the drafts, I think the staff should take a collective vote and decide to allot Jerry the 7th round pick instead of the 2nd. ;)

Ereck Flowers went 9 and Cooper went 7 in their drafts. We got Collins and Leary UDFA who are better than the above. We got Dak bottom of 4 and he was the 7th QB taken. We got Romo and Austin UDFA. You know how many first round QB's and WR's are busts?

 This fanbase.

We can do this every single draft

Right, and 2 years from now someone will complain about something from the 2016 draft.
Like why didn't we pick player X over Frazier in the 6th round....if Frazier doesn't have 18 INT's next year....they will complain.....

Collins is a very good player. Not DPOY or even in the conversation as far as I am concerned. Very good none the less.

We still don't know how the Gregory situation will turn out but he has played very limited number of snaps compared to Clark so comparing sack totals isn't really a good measure to go by. Before the draft Gregory was considered to have top 10 ability.
Isn't he the only player in NFL history with 100+ solo tackles 3 sacks and 5 ints and 10+ pbu's? Or something like that?

This type of post has to be the one I hate the most.

Draft picking in hindsight is the epitome of retardation. Everyone can do it better when you know the outcome. In most cases, there is a really good reason for taking a particular player at the spot they do. Sometimes it doesn't work out.

Gosh, if only our team was fortunate enough to grab an improbable star player with a mid round draft pick........dare to dream, right?

The 2015 draft was bad, but I'd like to think our last draft more than made up for it.
Yeah, getting great production out of Malik Collins and Brown alone is amazing. And Jaylon Smith I believe will be a great pick. Obviously, I'm leaving out Dak and Zeke because it's obvious.
