For me this season was about retooling. But I didn't invest heavily into the notion that the Cowboys were going to make a serious run. Oh I had moments I wanted to believe, but in hindsight, just too many moving parts for the team to gel and solidify into a contender.

As for next season, I'm not heavily invested into that yet either. I hear the endless noise about the Jones family, the 30 year curse, etc. I don't have any answer for that either.

But still I am looking forward to see what happens next year. Despite the groans of many Cowboys fans these last 2 weeks, I think Schotty should get another season to see what he can do. And I know this won't go over well, but I think giving Eberflus another chance is the best possible option vs. bringing in yet another DC. I may very well be wrong on that, but that's just me.

In other words I think the Cowboys would greatly benefit from having a quieter offseason with fewer moving parts and a focus on acquiring more talent/depth through the draft and FA while solidifying the core of what we got. And I'm the guy who wanted to flush the entire team after the Packers loss.

And if I'm wrong about next season, then count me in for flushing the Jones Era down the toilet. But for now, I do want to see what happens next season and not get caught up in the usual drama that goes on around here.

OK.

It's been 31 years with the exact same results. You can count on years 32 - 42 to be the same. Perhaps maybe then management will change their strategy and focus more on winning.

Due to TV and sponsorship revenues nothing will change in DAL.

This team will remain mediocre UFN.

This offseason is going to be a comedy.

Jerry will disrespect the RB position once again, he'll let Javonte Williams walk. He didn't get anything done with a contract for Pickens, so he's gone.

Jerry will resign a few low-impact Cowboys for way too much.

He'll try to do something spectacular in the draft and end up losing value to GMs far shrewder than him.

Training camp and preseason games will seem like a sick game of Russian roulette with a stream of "emerging" or "promising" players dropping like flies.

You know, just another typical Cowboys offseason.

I'm long past optimistic after enduring the last 31 years.

These days I just look at it like it's the debt that must be paid for my first 25 years as a fan when the Cowboys went to 14 NFC championship games and 8 Super Bowls.

Realistically, that's enough to fill up 56 years of being a Cowboys fan, just unfortunate it all had to happen in the first 25 years.

In any case, since I have watched them, the Cowboys went to the NFC championship game an average of every four seasons and a Super Bowl every seven seasons.

I guess this means most fans of other teams have gone through worse.......like I care.

It is wise not to invest very much emotional capital and energy into this team until they show real change. Not good for your health. See it for what it has become with Jerry pulling the strings, pure entertainment. You’ll get a good laugh this way.

I used to be so into to posting, doing play-by-play, buying memorabilia etc, that's all gone. I only come here to whine and complain for a couple of minutes, then back to the Mavs. Screw the Jones'
I remember you. Smart man.

I am not as optimistic as the OP. I watched the Mike Fisher show tonight and he was addressing the comments Stephen made about how the Jones don’t have to answer to anyone and they have to pay in other ways. He made a point that I have been fearing for a while. He predicted Stephen will not hire a real GM and the grandkids won’t either. He said he feels the Jones family believes their way is the right way and when Jerry expires there won’t be any change. That just made me think there is nothing to hope for. This is Al Davis 2.0 and now Al Davis’s son is doing the exact same thing as his father. And the Raiders record reflects that. And what’s sad is the Raiders have been more successful in the last 30 years than the Cowboys have. I just don’t think there’s any hope. .500 seasons will be the norm and maybe a 10 win season here and there but the dysfunctional culture is not changing anytime soon.

Is it wrong of me to hope that there will be some huge scandal that would force Jones to sell the team? Like a Dan Snyder scandal or something like Carman Policy and the 49ers scandal that caused them to switch ownership. Because I’m really starting to believe there is no end in sight.

Wow! Talk about a depressing outlook for Cowboys fans!! Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to take my Zoloft!!

It all hinges on how active they are in free agency and not bargain-bin shopping. The draft is not going to fix the defense alone for 2026.
Exactly right. This team could go either way next season, but they tend to think they are better than they actually are.

Never sign a significant FA, because they think they don’t need to, especially with an extra first this year.

They absolutely think they will get two immediate studs and not have to use FA. It hasn’t worked, won’t work and it’s now beyond a joke that they don’t see it.

Bad enough that every HC Jerry is willing to hire gets outsmarted far too often. Beat up on the division again and make things look better than they are. That’s all they’ve been doing for years now.
