Why did we let the Bucs poach him off the PS? Corners don't grow on trees and he had some serious potential. All we had to do was cut Rossum and promote him. Who would you rather have- a young corner with potential or an injured return specialist who won't help for another month and may no be usless with the emergence of crayton and ogletree. Things like this make no sense to me.

Why? The guy showed little in the pre-season.

the only way to keep him is to sign him to the team and make him active.

We simply cant do that. Its just the way it goes.

i don't think he has to be active, just on the 53 man squad.

No loss IMO. He looked completely lost out on the field.

...because he wasn't nearly good enough to put on our 53 man roster?

That's rhetorical.

It does suck, but that's the way the PS works. It sucks for the teams with more talent.

Dude looked like he Sucked with a capital "S" when he played in preseason.
Maybe one day he'll develop into something but those guys are a dime-a-dozen.

Not lost sleep here.

It does exactly the opposite for me. When you are losing players of quality like this when they are the 56th player on your roster then you are sitting just fine in overall talent.

Exactly. And to add to that, Mickens is churning at the bottom of the roster. He's not going to go from Dallas' practice squad to become the Bucs' best starting CB. It's more likely he'll get released and Dallas will have a chance to re-sign him again.

That is, if they even want to even have Mickens on the roster, because if they wanted him now, they would've released Rossum. Instead they chose to keep an aged, injured specilaist (becaue he wil be back healthy soon) who still has some ability over this young CB w/ (cough) "potential". What does that tell you?

It bothers me too a little because I was really excited we got him. I figured he would be okay once his knee healed. I got to swap some e-mails with his Dad. Nice family, really good kid. He was very excited to be a Dallas Cowboy.

On the other hand, I understand the Practice Squad and we put him there where any team could claim him. The active CBs are playing well, like him or not, he was expendable to this team at this time.

I saw a lot of potential in him as well. He led Cincinnati with the most interceptions in their school history. (14) I also thought he would perform well with DeAngelo Smith who was drafted this year as well, and also played at Cincinnati.

Some guys just look great in college but don't perform at the same level in the NFL. Good luck to him.

Who's spot on the roster was he going to take? If he is on the PS, any team is free to nab him. They guy had issues running with his broke-*** knee.

If he is able to salvage his career, good for him. He has shown a talent for finding the ball. Believe me, the Bucs aren't going to get anything out of him this year.

Mickens looked really bad in preseason. I saw nothing to be encouraged about. I was hoping to see an occasional "flash" of potential, but I didn't notice it. Maybe he was simply out of shape combined with needing a year to learn the game at the NFL level. Maybe he will develop into the player we thought based on his college career. I thought he was a total steal in the 7th round. But there was little (or no) tangible evidence of even potential at the time.
