I post here pretty often and check things out almost daily so just wanted to get out there that I lost one of my best friends and my football viewing buddy today at the age of 37. He broke his ankle a week ago going down the stairs to do laundry in the basement and had a hard time getting to be seen by an orthopedic for a couple of days due to his insurance and finally went to the emergency room. They scheduled him for surgery thursday and I was going to visit him on friday and his aunt/guardian called me and told me he was induced into a coma and from there they said a blood clot traveled to his heart and he was out for about 15 min and his brain wasn't receiving enough oxygen and he had severe damage. His kidneys started failing and they took him off his support saturday evening and he passed shortly after. He was a big Giants fan (we live in NJ) but never an annoyance. Great person, father of his 13 year old son and a great friend. The Best. I never had to deal with anything this hard in my entire life and that is ditto for my wife because he was always around. Our hearts are broken and sorry I just needed to get this out of me. Biggest loss in our lives.

My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. Sudden, unexpected losses such as that one always seem to hurt more. May your brother rest in peace.

Condolences. I lost my best friend just a couple of years ago. Shocking and sudden and there you sit trying to deal with it all. He was working on his truck and did not put jack stands up and the jack slipped and killed him.

Also just goes to show how what does not seem serious like a broken ankle can be terrible in consequences. I bet he thought it was only a bad sprain- many people think that until the xray shows the break.

In this day and age, someone dying from a Broken Ankle seems so crazy and although it was the clot not the ankle, I am sure you get what I mean.

It is one thing when you have older relatives or friends of the family that are going through long term problems...it does not make it easier per say but I think you tend to start preparing for the worst while hoping for the best. But it would be truly shocking for someone to go from a broken ankle to death in such a short time and not having the time to even consider preparing yourself for a potential loss.

Truly sorry for your loss.

This just sucks. Condolences to your family, and his.

You never know when your ticket is gonna get punched. Kiss your wife, hug your kids, and enjoy the time you've got because it's all over all too soon. Breaking an ankle doing a load of laundry. Sheesh.

No one can prepare you for a loss it comes like a swift wind. But take comfort in knowing that he is now resting in the arms of GOD.
sincere condolences my friend.

Sorry I have heard this bad news friend!
I don't want to turn it into a health care issue but man! Like @BrAinPaiNt post infers ' bitter pill to swallow'
I had shattered my lower left leg at ankle and above on motorcycle (enduro)
Was pretty much 'indigent'
Financially , the hospital put it in a L shaped brace with ace bandage wrapped around it and sent me home for 3 days before they called me to have it plated/screwed,, there was a real pretty illegal alien girl who needed a liver transplant also, the doctor told me they were stretched pretty thin on charity cases they could address,,, I told him to just cut my broken $h*t off and I'd be good with that(I was gonna make my own peg-leg ,,)
They did both ,,,unfortunately the pretty girls liver transplant was rejected/ it didn't take,,,my surgeon told me that.
