Love our Defense, but we're afraid of the big play

The thing I like so much about Philly's defense is that they play aggressive from beginning to end. The bring the blitz all day, and QBs struggle because of it.

I'm tired of seeing us bring 4 against the pass... I loved the idea of bringing carpenter or brooking on a stunt or delayed blitz.

Dallas was not going to let Philly beat us because of 1 big play. We went into the game knowing that Philly would have a hard time staying patient and taking small chunks of yardage. This is a Philly team was avg 28 points a game and was just held to 16 points. Wade and his staff along with this team did exactly what they needed to do to win the game.

Philly started off blitzing almost literally every play and it was stopping us. They let up and we scored points.

This thread makes no sense. It's like you watched the opposite of the game I watched.

Remember that 60 something yard catch and run Crayton had when we torched their blitz? Or the couple screen passes Ogletree burned them on?

If we had blitzed as hard as they did, Desean Jackson would probably have had about 3 50+ yard plays.

There is zero to complain about in terms of our defense from yesterday. We went into their house and held them to 16, when they're averaging 29 a game.

Well Philly WAS leading the league in big plays, so I think he came out with a good gameplan.

All week it was about how Eagles averaged like 4 or 5 plays for every possession that they scored a touchdown on. So the biggest key was seeing if they can have 12 play drives and making sure that they didn't have the big one. I liked our gameplan!

Dallas does bring a lot of blitzes but there are times it is not smart to live and die by the blitz. Wade and his staff try to mix things up so the QB is not only seeing 1 thing all the time.

Yeah, Philly stays aggressive... Like they did on the huge plays to Crayton and Miles.

We *are* an aggressive defense. But there's a line between aggressive and reckless. We couldn't allow Jackson and Maclin to get behind us -- and we didn't.

It's funny that you mention that. The big play is what could have beaten us last night. We did what we had to to stop it from happening (i.e. the lack of blitz and playing deep coverage). On the flip side, it's exactly that mentality that got the Eagles beat. They paid for being aggressive, and it cost them the game.

Its amazing to me how fast things change in th NFL. Giving up big plays killed this team all decade now you say you wanna see them blitz every play. You have to be kidding me. How can you make that ridiculous comment after a game we're the cowboys opponent lost primarily because they blitz, it was picked up and they gave up a 50 yard TD to Austin to lose the game. You cant be serious, This isn't Madden.

Next year the defense could theoretically work in the following play makers already on the roster: Butler, B Williams, J Williams, and M Hamlin, plus the maturation of Scandrick. I think if even two of these guys make an impact you could see alot more take aways.

It wasn't last night. :laugh2: Philly defense has had it share of being overly risky and giving up big plays to lose games thus no SB rings on their fingers either. I like seeing Dallas bring the heat but I think teams can get to blitz happy and it is just as costly.

We read the whole thread. It didn't get any better. The idea that "Wade plays the game way too cautious on defense" is as absurd now as it was when it was the first sentence in the thread.

You know what I like best about Wades "too cautious" defense? I like the fact that they are giving up the least amount of points per game than ANY other NFC team.You know the best way to win games? It's to actually out score your opponent, not look better doing it.

They lost because a corner bit on a route and a pump fake, not because of the blitz....

ummmm did you just recently start watching football, seem to be the case. The corner was in single coverage because of the blitz, and big plays like that happen if you just play man, the corner is left on an island with no help from the backers and in this case the safeties were in a deep cover 2 leaving a huge window for romo to place the ball in after Brown bit on the pump fake. You blitz in certain situations not every play.
