LT appears to be in NY state of mind

By Kevin Acee, UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 10:52 a.m.

The team that just two months ago ended one of the best Chargers’ seasons ever now appears to have absconded with one of the best Chargers’ players ever.

According to three people with knowledge of the process, Tomlinson has decided to become a New York Jet.

"It's 100 percent," one source said. "Done deal."

Sources said Tomlinson is expected to announce the decision today or tomorrow.

Still, Tomlinson said via e-mail this morning that he “doesn’t know” where he’s going yet.

One source cautioned late Saturday night that a decision has not yet been officially made. But the others said today that Tomlinson has let people know he is going to New York.

After nine years as a San Diego icon, Tomlinson was released in February. His 2009 season saw him post career-low numbers in carries and yards, but he left the franchise holding 28 team records and as the NFL’s eighth-leading rusher all-time and third-leading touchdown scorer ever.

In New York, he will back up Shonn Greene.

Tomlinson also visited the Minnesota Vikings last week, spending two days in Minneapolis before going to New York. He returned to San Diego on Saturday.

There have also been reports the New Orleans Saints were interested in bringing Tomlinson for a visit. But the lure of playing in the Big Apple and under Brian Schottenheimer, the Jets offensive coordinator and son of former Chargers coach and LT confidant Marty Schottenheimer, evidently won out.

The length and terms of the deal are not known.

Better than him going to the Vikes.

Report: Tomlinson hasn't made up his mind
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 14, 2010 3:09 PM ET
Although all signs point to the Jets, we still don't know for sure where LaDainian Tomlinson will end up.

And apparently that's because Tomlinson doesn't know either.

Not long after we passed along a report from Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune saying Tomlinson was poised to become a Jet, Acee tweeted that Tomlinson told him he hasn't made up his mind yet.

So, officially, we don't know where Tomlinson will play 2010. We just know everyone thinks it will be in New York.

Kevin Acee, of The San Diego Union-Tribune, reports free-agent RB LaDainian Tomlinson (Chargers) said he still does not know where he is going to play in 2010 yet. "That means he hasn't "officially" made up his mind," Acee tweeted. It was previously reported that he was going to join the New York Jets.

Per the source, Condon is not sure which direction the talks will go.

either way, it's not THAT big of a deal. 2010 LT is no 2006 LT.

you arent even joking around, I remember a few seasons ago everyone, and I mean every media outlet had this guy breaking all the records and setting new ones. Now he's just a shell of his former self.

Hey I live in New York City on Tomlinson Avenue (no joke). Maybe he can come here and do a photo up / contract signing thing :)

It sounds as though Tomlinson is playing one against another... Smart move, he'll get more money that way.

How much of a bidding war can there really be for a backup RB?
