Lucky Whitehead should be used more next year

I think having him run routes out of the backfield would get him some very advantageous matchups. Instead, our Tecmo Bowl offense doesn't allow that.

at first i wasnt sold on him at all but i think as the season progressed he really has come into his own and shook off the rookie jitters, he just looks more comfortable being out there in my opinion. i've definitely been happy with what i've seen of him as of late.

This past offseason he was battling just to make the 53. I think he's proven that he belongs. Hopefully this coming offseason he improves his craft and can be a pleasant surprise at WR. I'd love to see him come out next year and exploit defenses focusing too much on Dez, Witten and the running game.

To me, he has been a gimmick in this offense.

Not his fault, but if you look at the player and what he does, he looks like we recruited a fake Dwayne Harris.

Yes, in the offense, he's been used as a gimmick pretty much exclusively. Hence my HOPE that he hones his craft in the offseason and can be used as a real WR next year.

I don't think Dwayne was really Dwayne his rookie year, either. I wouldn't expect Lucky to be better than Dwayne right off the bat.

If you're holding your breath when Lucky is back there returning what do you do when Beasley returns punts? I hold my breath when Beasley has the ball period because I've seen him get stripped and fumble many times.

Agreed, however this thread is about Whitehead. Finding a returner is a priority!

He's fast and quick, but can he run effective routes and make catches in traffic? We haven't really seen that yet. Doesn't mean he can not, but it's a stretch to assume that he can. Worst case scenario, I'm fine with him being the 5th WR/KR/PR and used only primarily on gadget plays.

The WR corps definitely needs more from WRs #2-4.

They also need more from WR #1.

He's is about same size as DeSean Jackson and has similar skill set. I'm not saying he is or will be as good as him but he can definitely start as a WR in the NFL.

He needs to get stronger so he can beat press coverage consistently. He has something this offense needs and that you can't teach. Speed and quickness.

I'm hoping both he and Butler can provide much needed speed to this offense next year.

He can't block like Harris but I keep seeing him lined up in short yardage runs

T-Will does not have NFL hands, and he's only average at route running. Should be a backup.

Lucky might have future at slot. That should be our separation guy, but Beas didn't impress this year.

Beasely was good this year. Not his fault the qb's wouldn't throw him the ball.

The problem is the #2 WR.

And Whitehead sucks.

Our WR core is not bad but we needed someone to step up when Dez went down. We have nobody, Williams disappears and Beas is only a slot guy...Lucky can be seen as a slot guy as well. We need another outside guy, I wouldn't mind using a first on an elite talent if it makes sense.

So a rookie who has made plays stinks? I hope this is a joke, Whitehead will only get better...too soon to judge any rookie but he has made some plays for us on offense and special teams.

This.

There were multiple plays this year where Lucky was able to show off his speed, and his burst and acceleration is definitely impressive. Hope to see him really develop in year 2.

Hopefully Butler can get over these injuries that keep hampering him, because he looks to have potential as well.

Our drives this year have gained an average of 31.3 yards, and reached FG range 37% of the time. The drives that include a Lucky run average 46.1 yards, and reach FG range 60% of the time.

But let's not try anything that might be considered a gimmick, or that we're uncomfortable with.

I think Lucky will be better next year and be a bigger part of offense.

I dunno. The jet package is simple, safe and was a very effective facet of the run game the once or twice it was used in a few games this year. But despite the effect it has demonstrated to have on opposing defenses, the Dallas brain trust refuses to use it for more than a token play here or there. I don't get it.

I think Dunbar resumes his role as slot back when he's healthy.

Interesting to think about, I think the odds are good we pick up a #2 caliber WR with deep speed. If a burner and Dez are on the outside with Lucky as the Slot and Dunbar as the RB, its something Linehan can do a lot with.
