Eagles | Lurie feels cheated by not having the chance to keep R. White
Fri, 4 Aug 2006 18:49:30 -0700
Larry O'Rourke, of The Morning Call, reports Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said he still feels cheated by not being able to sign DL Reggie White's paychecks. White will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday, Aug. 5. Lurie, who bought the team in 1995, said, "When I first got the call that the Eagles were available, the very first thought I had was, 'That's Reggie White's franchise.' You get the thought of the great fans, rabid city, but Reggie White - 'That's Reggie White's franchise.' It was a shock when he died (in December 2004). ... I'm very proud he was here. I feel so frustrated that I bought the team (two years) after he left, (but) we were able to keep up a wonderful relationship right up to the end."
