Do you think with his reefer, coke, drugs and hookers reputation, Schramm & Landry would have put Irvin in the ... Ring of Honor !!

Though I love him, not sure his name is synonomous with honor.

I think this has more to do with his on the field accomplishments, which have always been overshadowed by the off-field antics. THe fact that he's cleaned up and tried to make up for the past speaks volumes. Hopefully some day people will focus more on what he brought to the game every Sunday.

I don't think that Schramm or Landry would have a problem with Irvin being in the ROH or HOF.

Irvin is one of the best receivers in team history and easily deserving of the ROH. His off field antics aren't even that bad compared to some players. He really only hurt himself. He didn't shoot anyone or beat his wife or trade in copiuous amounts of drugs.

He is at least #3 on the list of great Cowboy receivers depending on how you judge them. I put him #1 ahead of Bob Hays and Drew Pearson and it is a close race. Some may put them in different order, but most will agree that all three are deserving of the ROH and also the HOF.

I don't know Tom and Tex would have done it , remember it was Jerry who put Hayes in the ROH not Landry or Tex and Hayes career had been over for a long time before Jerry ever bought the team.

He was a great WR and apart of 3 SB teams. Yes he deserves this honor.

all i have to say is, i don't know him personally, and we've all made mistakes.

i choose to look at what he's done with his life SINCE drugs, and i think he's doing pretty well.

and oh yea....he was ok on the field, too.

No because he never would have lasted with them...anyone who went against the grain had a difficult time lasting with them.

...to be in because of his on field accomplishments, but Cowboy fandom should not let him off so easy with his post career accolades.

It is justified that Irvin should not be a first ballot Hall of Famer, and that we should be debating whether he is a lock for any other honours. His off field antics should be held up to him as a reminder for him and other Cowboys following that general poor moral behavior can be a detriment to a stellar career.

He gets in, but let's not roll out the red carpet a strew roses in his path along the way to the podium. In his case a treacherous stone path is not a bad solution.

Irvin did not go against the grain. He was a team player and leader.

Hayes went to prison. Irvin did not. There was a difference in the things that Hayes did and what Irvin did. Tex and Tom liked Irvin enough to draft him. The guy was a great competitor and worked harder than anyone on the team during practice and was a vocal leader of the team.

Dont forget narcotics and illegal substances too, oh wait those are just more words to say the same thing. Was he actually known to use hookers? I only recall he was at a party where there were dancers/strippers/hookers. Seems like every NFL player who ever went to a bachelor party should get the same scrutiny.

They would have loved Irvin, they did love Irvin. When the team was at it's lowest point in yrs they went out and drafted Michael Irvin.

God forgave him, why can't we. We're all good at bringing up the past. His past does not define the man he has become now.

We will never know but I do know that Tom seldom cut slack to players with the problem Irvin had. He did not put up with Henderson and others who never were busted but were using drugs. Look I'm not knocking Irvin and I think he does deserve it but I really think it would have been 50/50 if Irvin under Tom.

You guys keep bringing up how good he was, or how hard he worked, nobody is questioning that.

And yes we can forgive.

But this is an honor bestowed to those who wore the Star with dignity, and character, and brought honor to the team, .. not those that brought disgrace.

He embarassed the whole organization.

I didn't think the ROH included those that did that.

really he embrassed the whole orginazation, when he was there catching TD Passes in the SB, in the 49ers game, against the egales giants, was he embarssing us when he was catching the TD"s that helped win us games, He made mistakes yes, but did he stop yes, did he keep on playing and leading our team to victory, yes, nobody is saying what he did was right, but it was forgiven and the cowboys orginzation moved past it, what IRvin brought to the team, is greatly outweighed by the mistake he made. that he stopped

I never say that Mike was not great that he was the heart of this team and worked harder than any player out there and I went to enough training camps and seen it 1st hand of the hard work from Mike. However that does not change the fact that Mike along with some others gave the Cowboys a black eye and gave plenty of ammo for the media who was constantly pounding on the Cowboys about the drug use, it also helped direct us away from some players in the draft because of the damage done to the image of the Cowboys. Dallas did not take Moss for this very reason because on one hand Jerry was trying to get things cleaned up but would have been racked over the coals had he taken Moss. What Mike did was an embarrassment one shared by the team and himself.

The ROH is for football players-- not gods-- human beings with flaws like you and I. Irvin honored the organization in ways others never did.

It's much, much harder to be a great player than it is to get caught screwing up off the field. Had media scrutiny been in the 60's - 80's what it is today, I think there would have been a lot more embarrassments. I for one am grateful we had a Michael Irvin and were able to team him with Emmitt, Troy and the other great Cowboys from the 90's.
