If you didnt guess from my screen name,I dj for a living.A very good friend of mine(also a great dj)turned me on to the "new" way of djing.Using a laptop, external hard drive and external sound card. This combination with the software is AMAZING!My creative possibilities are endless and time saving. However, the laptop I was using cant handle the load. So,I'm in the market for a new laptop.I'm leaning towards a Mac,any thoughts and reasons why I shouldnt go this way?How many of you use Macs?

I will stick with PC for many reasons.

However I have heard that macs are very good for doing media (audio/visual programs) stuff.

Meh...I guess you would have to try a friends mac to see if you like it.

Here is one thing to consider though.

With a PC you already are familiar with most of the Operating software. You also can upgrade different parts of the computer when you need to and have a wide variety of companies to choose from both in buying the pc or upgrading parts.

With mac...you are limited in that area.

their are pro's and con's to both macs and pcs. I mainly use a Mac as my primary computer but my secondary computer is my laptop (PC). I've had good experiences with both of them. Mac's are more expensive due to the restriction of what kind of hard ware goes it to them, while PC's are now a days dirt cheap.

The O/S's are alot more alike then most people realize. Esp with the recent release of vista (which i have yet to get and play with)

like BP stated Macs are more for your A/V programing, the movie editing program they giving allows you to edit straight to 1080i...yeah cool. i really haven't messed with garage band (the music) program so i really can't help you out with your djin aspect.

Well, according to the commericals, if you're cool and hip and use computers mostly for creating mash-up videos, then Mac is the way to go.

If you're lame, conservative and have a stick up your arse, and are only concerned about making money, then go with the PC.

;)

I've been doing some pricing, and you'd be surprised how close most of the different brands of pc laptops are compared to the mac I've been eyeing. The software I'm using is called Traktor 3.(its German made).Traktor allows me to play like I'm using vinyl, except with mp3's.I have several friends in the video business, and they'll hook me up with lots of software. Thanks Kid.

why do they suck?Yeag, can you give me any reasons why I should stick with a pc?

It was a joke. Both machines have their pros and cons. I have only ever worked with pc's.

Like Brain said mac are better for multimedia so that might be the way you want to go.

Mac users are loyal to them. I can't stand them. I was telling Reality last night that I view them with the same disdain as the Commanders or the Eagles. I would rather give up playing on the computer than have to have one. I can't give you any technical reasons because that is not my forte'. Part of it is that I am a creature of habit and am used to PCs. I don't care how much better Mac users say they are. My response to that is always the same, "yuck." I won't tell anyone not to use them, or that they are worthless. They could be half the price of PCs and I still wouldn't even consider one.

I don't use computers for enough reasons that it would matter to me. Storing music, surfing the internet, IM, writing. I don't need performance from a computer, just general functionality.

In other words - I posted to tell you I can't help in any way, and that the time I took to write and you took to read this post, nothing constructive whatsover has happened.

I work as a IT Tech in a school enviroment using both Mac and PC...

I love them both.....I cant see how someone hates one and likes another.....not much difference nowadays comparing their enviroments.

Mac's are way more user friendly....for younger kids especially....most users use computers for word processing...music...video...internet....messaging......if u are one of those users...u cant really beat a Mac.....I rarely have issues with popups.....spyware...and viruses seem to be non existant....I can honestly say in all the years working with Macs in a school enviroment....I never once had to deal with a virus on a Mac.

That being said....Macs original price might be very comparable to PC....but once warranty ends....Macs are expensive to fix......and very difficult for a home user to fix themselves.

PC are cheap now....and repairing them are very easy....if u enjoy playing video games....PC's are great...IMHO....because of the ability to upgrade your computer so easily.

Concerning viruses and spyware...etc.....they are all preventable...but the user needs to have a little bit of knowledge and apply those preventative actions weekly if not daily.....

Support is also IMHO easier found for PC then Macs....but then again.....I rarely see Macs have issues with hardware or software conflicting with each other.

djdoug,

If you are using this laptop just for playing music....then a PC would be my pic...just because it will probally be cheaper....and you will probally get more bang for the buck.

I love playing all types of games on PC's.

Do they even make games for Mac's? I've never seen one.

Or can you somehow play the PC games on the Mac's?

some games have a Mac version. a plus for the mac useres are they can load up bootcamp and run windows xp/vista and with an open pci-e card slot they can plop in a video card and if you have a multi-screen display (most mac users do for some reason, i dont) you can have it hooked up to the vga/dvi-d slot and you have your windows gaming plat forms

Friends of mine here in Anchorage run a couple of radio stations.

They went through this same issue when setting up KPHAT.

Bottom line- they went w/ a PC Laptop.

Why?

Software - Software - Software

Most MFG's do not program as much for the Mac as they do the PC.

You will have much more selection of Music/Editing software when going w/ a PC Laptop.

Just fact.

more options doesn't always mean better programs though.
