Stupid re-draft ......

Ramsey would have joined our other two first round corners on the bench and Spence would have joined our other two high drafted DE's on the suspended list.

no offense but thats pretty goofy rationale.
ramsay would have started at safety in all likelihood as a rookie then transitioned to CB.
the starting secondary would have been oscan, carr, mo, bryon jones and ramsay. arguably the best coverage group in football. but mo and carr are on 1 year extensions so ramsay would move year 2 making heath your other safety.

spence would have started day 1... he may end up suspended later in his career but day 1 he would have started while the other guys were suspended.
spence would have been fine as it takes a long time for a failed test to cost you games.

I was very torn between Ramsey and zeke but zeke can really help this team ASAP. Ramsey may have a hard time transitioning. Look at what happened with Claiborne. Also the lack of picks bothered a lot of people. I always thought it was because no one threw to his side but that wasn't the case

R1-Zeke- a future and prennial Pro Bowl player
R2-Jaylon Smith-if healthy, see a similar results to Zeke.
R3-Collins- if a permanent anchor to the DL then this is an excellent pick.
R4-Tapper will challenge both Tank and Gregory to cleanup their personal lives. Love this pick.
R4-DAK-DAL investigated Dak thoroughly in pre-draft visits. View this pick the weakest pick
R6-Brown-only knockdown is his height of 5'11 but an excellent pick.
R6-Frazior-if Barry Church cloned. Hopefully as good in run support but can cover someone. A skill Church cannot do.
R6-Jackson-Big back with super measureables. Very optimistic with this pick.
R6-Gathers-will become the biggest and most athletic TE in NFL. Just watch and copy Jason Written. This is an excellent gamble and super pick once Written trains this man to follow him to future Pro Bowls.

I have no doubt's Zeke will be awesome.

I just think we easily find similar production later on from a guy like Procise, Perkins, Henry, or Booker later on.

Also, we have to compare what we get for what we pay. You can get a really good NFL RB for 5-6 mill a year. What can you get at corner? Not much. That is the main reason I would select Ramsey because i'll easily find a guy that highly produces in the most optimal place for a RB to be.

Now we're pretty much where we were before the draft. No upgrades in the secondary, our best corner coming off an ACL, and one of the worst DL's in the NFL with 2 of those guys being suspended for 4 games.

Our defense is in shambles.

Not like that draft at all. Too many concerns and don't feel the team is better with this draft. So glad we don't have "popular opinion" drafting for us

When is the last time we started a rookie DB? When is the last time we started a Rookie defensive players baring injury?

How would you have felt if the draft turned out this way?

http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...going-pre-draft-hype-fans-familiarity-players

Round 1, Pick 4 (4)

Popular pick: Jalen Ramsey, CB, Florida State.

The Cowboys needed more help on defense than offense and Ramsey would've significantly upgraded the back end of that unit.

Round 2, Pick 3 (34)

Popular pick: Noah Spence, DE, Eastern Kentucky.

Spence has off-field concerns, but he was the best pass-rusher available at No. 34 and the Cowboys certainly need help in that area.

Round 3, Pick 4 (67)

Popular pick: C.J. Prosise, RB, Notre Dame.

Since the Cowboys wouldn't have landed Elliott in this re-draft, Prosise is a starting-caliber back, and one of Dallas' pre-draft visitors, still available at this point.

Round 4, Pick 3 (101)

Popular pick: Hassan Ridgeway, DT, Texas.

Aside from some injury concerns, Ridgeway seems to be the versatile type of athletic defensive lineman that Rod Marinelli prefers.

Round 4, Pick 37 (135)

Popular pick: Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State.

At this point in the draft, you can't get a more popular player than Prescott, one of the biggest names in college football the last two years.

Round 6, Pick 14 (189)

Popular pick: Maurice Canady, CB, Virginia.

Canady, who is a couple of inches taller than Brown, was coached by the Cowboys at the Senior Bowl.

Round 6, Pick 37 (212)

Popular pick: Jalen Mills, S, LSU.

Mills has shown the ability to play multiple defensive back positions. Some experts projected him to get drafted as high as the third round.

Round 6, Pick 41 (216)

Popular pick: Daniel Lasco, RB, California.

After rushing for 1,115 yards and 12 TDs as a junior, some thought Lasco would get drafted as high as the fourth round.

Round 6, Pick 42 (217)

Popular pick: Tyler Matakevich, LB, Temple.

The All-American linebacker recorded 481 tackles over the last four years. Last season he won the Chuck Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation's most outstanding defensive player.

At this point, I can't see why anyone would have trouble with this draft or Dallas' actual draft. Truth is, it is all a guessing game for us. We don't know what the teams knew about these players, and even the teams don't know how these players will turn out.

I could have lived with Dallas going this way from that standpoint, but we could just as easily look at this draft in a few years and say, "Boy, I'm glad that Dallas took Elliott, Smith, Collins, etc."

I like the fan mock better but truly believe the fans would have traded down at 4 and dropped a few slots.
Drafting Zeke at 4 was stupid but that doesn't mean it can't work out just fine in the long run anyway.

The fans don't have the same character concerns as the team thus why they'd take the questionable guys.

I would have taken Spence at 34 for sure. We badly need pass rush talent and risk is lessened at 34.
Spence was probably the best pure pass rusher in this entire class. And I'd have been willing to take more risks after trading down and acquiring more picks.

I agree with this post.

I also like this draft better then our actual draft.

You're posting a perfect scenario for each pick. Now let's look at the other side (worse case). Truth is somewhere in between.

R1- Zeke Big bust like Richardson, Benson and Carter
R2- Smith Never plays a single down in NFL.
R3- Collin JAG and his 2015 production was the real him and not 2014.
R4- Tapper Oklahoma used him properly. He's really a 3-4 DE. An athlete but not football player.
R4- Dak another QB that's doesn't work out.
R6....Bunch of nobodies and Gathers who looks like fish out of water. Or Gathers looks ok with potential so we put him on Practice Squad for almost a year but only for another team to sign him to their active roster..

Truth is somewhere in between. I sure hope yours comes true though.

"Ramsey would've significantly upgraded the back end of that unit.".

At cornerback, he in my opinion wouldn't have significantly upgraded that unit if he doesn't make plays on the ball. As a tackler, sure. As someone getting int's or making plays, no.

R6-Brown-only knockdown is his height of 5'11 but an excellent pick.

5'11 is ideal height for a cornerback.
Corners range from 5'8 to 6'1 - and 6'1 is really pushing it.
Revis is 5'11. No one says of him he has a height disadvantage.

Because of the bigger receivers, some teams are going for bigger CBs; like seahawks. Cowboys tend to as well but their cutoff is less than 5-10 although I doubt they take a 5-10 guy early. The bigger the CB though the stiffer the hips usually.

I like this draft better on paper, too. But then, things have a way of working out differently than you expected on draft day in he long run. Some of my favorite recent drafts have sort of fizzled. And drafts I didn't love have worked out ok. I try to say what I do and don't like and then shut up and see what happens. I think I'm getting to 'shut up' time.

San diego came out the biggest winners by taking Bosa..that one left a mark.

I have a feeling you're going to be chewing that crow for some time after this draft. I'm going to make sure you remember it too. :)
