Machota: If the Cowboys could get DeMarco Murray back for the right price, they'd do it

Question: I'm surprised to be hearing about a different side of Murray on the field and in the locker room in Philly. If you were in charge of the Cowboys and he were cut, would you think twice before signing him? Especially if you continue to believe in rotating RBs?

Machota: The Cowboys know more about DeMarco Murray than any other team in the league. If they could get him back for the right price, they'd do it. They didn't make a better offer to him last offseason because they had a limit to what they were willing to spend. It wasn't because of locker room problems. Jason Garrett would love to have Murray still on this roster.

So I guess there might be a small chance for this happening ?
I think Chip has shown if a player isnt on board with his way of doing things, he gets rid of them,
and Murray has complained about things.

We have to wait and see what is said after eagles season is over, which hopefully is this Sunday.

I think Murray might be open to less $ to get out of Philly. He will have made some G money.

love Murray. must move one...he took his money (I would have taken more money in some/most scenarios)....if free (cheap)? I would consider it...otherwise, that ship has sailed

Exactly what I said a while back. I don't blame Murray for taking the money and all of the rah-rah speak from him about the Eagles was nothing different than anyone in his position would say given how much they just paid him.

That said, it's rare you get to "go back" in the NFL. While he could come back one day, he will never be the guy we had last year (and that was very likely even if he resigned with the Cowboys this year) and now that he left for another team, especially an NFC East rival, many fans will never like/love him like they did last year. It's sad and disappointing, but choices were made and its time for everyone involved to move on.

I keep seeing people think that if Murray was still here, that he would have been the same and things would be different with the team...with ALL of those touches last year, he can't be the same person, especially since he never carried the load before...again. I wish the guy well, but can't see him donning the star again

I would say it is also rare that a player signs for 40 million dollars and turns into a 3rd stringer.

I'll say what I have always said, if Chip stays in Philly...Murray will be a scapegoat for the poor season. Every season, Chip has a scapegoat to take the pressure off of him (first year,.Jackson, second year, McCoy.) Murray would be a perfect scapegoat being a former Cowboy without any real ties or significant relationships in the city. You don't pay a 3rd string disgruntled RB that much money, it just looks silly and is not good for the lockerroom. If Chip gets canned, a new coach will likely keep Murray around assuming they run a more traditional offense.

For better or worse, the Cowboys will be interested, I am sure of that.

No thanks, time to move on, as we need a young RB to grow with a new QB that will take over in a few years.

Agreed. Nothing against Murray or the decision he made. It's just time to move on. The likelihood is he won't replicate 2014 or come close to it ever again. It's just the nature of the RB position. Hopefully he finds a situation that better suits his style of play and Dallas actually looks to draft a talented RB this year.

You're correct, that ship has sailed and good riddance.

Lots of crystal ball gazing and prognostication on what he would have been and what the future holds.

I do not believe for a minute the Jones' didn't covet Peterson and actually convinced themselves they had a shot. And to make that day dream work, they considered they'd get Gurly as a consolation prize if all things fell apart.

Best laid plans of Mice and Men...

Now marry that will all the folks here who created a myth about Murray to placate his leaving, and you have the results of where the team is now.

One has to wonder, with Murray, if the defenses would have played Dallas differently, and Romo would not have gotten hurt.

That was rhetorical and more of an example of the sooth-saying transpiring here about what is and what will never be.

The team made a huge mistake, one they aren't man enough to acknowledge, and the fan base went along because they, like the Jones boys, ignored the major piece which caused the 2014 team to excel. Romo was still the eye of the storm, but with that running game, he became a surgeon dissecting the defensive cadaver in front of him.

The grass is always....well you know the old saw.

It'll be WAY cheaper to draft a RB and keep them around for a few years.

RB is becoming almost a disposable position in the NFL. It has a very short learning curve and with colleges moving toward run-heavy offenses, guys are coming in basically ready to go from day 1.

With the rookie salary cap, there really is no point to re-signing a RB to a big contract unless he's a major stud RB (AP, Bell, etc)

I think it was something Dallas realized with Murray. Sure he had a great 2014, but all things considered, they weren't going to overpay for him.

Frankly, Dallas dropped the ball by NOT drafting a RB in the 3rd-5th rounds of the 2015 draft. There was plenty of talent there.

Murray wasn't the reason for our drop off in rushing look no further than the play calling and scheme
