Machota: If the Cowboys could get DeMarco Murray back for the right price, they'd do it

Every season, Chip has a scapegoat to take the pressure off of him (first year,.Jackson, second year, McCoy.)

Sounds really familiar. The best thing for us would be Chip Staying in Philly. Hopefully that broken clock being right happens again next season. I have my doubts, though. Maybe if we draft corners in the first 3 rounds.

I keep seeing people think that if Murray was still here, that he would have been the same and things would be different with the team...with ALL of those touches last year, he can't be the same person, especially since he never carried the load before...again. I wish the guy well, but can't see him donning the star again

Had he resigned with the Cowboys I don't think anyone thought he would duplicate last seasons 1800-plus yards but I felt he could put up 1300-plus health permitting. You can't just assume because he had all those touches last season he would have been done or not the same player anymore. Many on this board look at his production in Philly and are glad we moved on from him but he's been a poor system fit and hasn't had near the opportunity to be productive.

In the last 3 games he's only been involved in 42 snaps and I'm talking "snaps" not touches. He's been fazed out of the Eagles offense and isn't even receiving carries where he was affective for them in short yardage situations. Just last week Philly used Matthews on a 4th and one where Murray is normally used and Mathews got stuffed. I would take him back next season he'll be well rested from standing on the sidelines in Philly but not 2-3 years from now because he won't be the same player.

Lots of crystal ball gazing and prognostication on what he would have been and what the future holds.

I do not believe for a minute the Jones' didn't covet Peterson and actually convinced themselves they had a shot. And to make that day dream work, they considered they'd get Gurly as a consolation prize if all things fell apart.

Best laid plans of Mice and Men...

Now marry that will all the folks here who created a myth about Murray to placate his leaving, and you have the results of where the team is now.

One has to wonder, with Murray, if the defenses would have played Dallas differently, and Romo would not have gotten hurt.
That was rhetorical and more of an example of the sooth-saying transpiring here about what is and what will never be.

The team made a huge mistake, one they aren't man enough to acknowledge, and the fan base went along because they, like the Jones boys, ignored the major piece which caused the 2014 team to excel. Romo was still the eye of the storm, but with that running game, he became a surgeon dissecting the defensive cadaver in front of him.

The grass is always....well you know the old saw.

I still believe our biggest mistake was not drafting a running back anywhere in the draft. Too many good backs came out of last season for us to pass on. This season alone, at least 6 rookie backs have made an immediate impact. Out of our draft picks, only Jones has made an immediate impact.

.

McFadden would have 1300+ if not for Joseph Randle. Take his numbers since he has been starter and stretch it over 16 games and he will be right around 1300.

1800 yards is worth the money he was not asking, not 1300 yards when we can replicate that for peanuts.

29 year old RB with a lot of wear and tear, one who missed significant time every year except a contract year....i'll take a draft pick at this point thank you

Well the Machota guy is listed as a insider for the cowboys, so the team or FO may be interested.
It all depends on what happens after the season is over.
If they are keeping JG and JG wants murray back, and it is feasible to FO then it is possible it might happen
whether fans like it or not.
They rarely do what we want them to.

McFadden has been part of the problem in short yardage situations which is why the Cowboys rank dead last on 3rd and one. A lot of the opportunities McFadden got early in the season while Randle was starting was in short yardage situations and he didn't produce. In the first 5 games McFadden who had taken over the role Randel excelled in last season averaged less than 4 yards a carry in 4 of those games. McFadden has averaged under 4.0 a carry in 8 of the Cowboys 14 games and only got the opportunity to start after Randel got hurt and was released due to off the field issues.

McFadden's 3 TD's this season in one fewer than Murray has this season. After 14 games last season Murray had 11 TD's and was terrific in short yardage situations. He moved the chains consistently last season in short yardage situations helping the team control the clock and keep the defense off the field. McFadden had 2 games this season where he averaged less than 2.0 a carry and one of those games was vs Tampa.

Comparing any skill position player to last season is like apples and oranges.

Yes, Murray was tremendous last season, McFadden has been only above average. The whole point was that 1300 yards is pretty easy to accomplish behind this OL in this offense. I am sure Murray could've done it even better but it's not worth what he got paid. Our mistake will always be not drafting a back and relying on McFadden/Randle to replicate what Murray did last season.

Unless he is practically free(meaning PHI pays the guaranteed money) I think the Murray ship has sailed. He only had 3 really good years left and now one of those is gone.

Draft a RB early and that should do it.

I'm not so sure, I would guest Dallas sign a young back and draft a back.

look at what he did in tonight game with playoffs on the line...he fumbles on 17 and DeAngelo Hall return it for easy score. That huge turnover killed momentum Eagles starting getting. As much as I liked Murray and OL playing bumper cars with league last year I just can't have my feature RB giving up the ball so easily. In end it cost you critical games.

Fresh legs from the draft

Well last years 'deepest rb draft ever' has been pretty abysmal outside of Gurley. McFadden has more rushing yards than the whole class and it's not really close

Cost us the Green Bay game last year, more so than the non Dez catch IMO.
Tonight, five carries 27 yards one td for and coughed up a backbreaking TD for the other team. Apparently, he likes to fumble against the skins. I remember last season, in the skins game we lost which kept us from the number one or two seed btw, Murray broke off a 60 yard run that would've put us deep in the red zone and able to just about seal the game when he decides to fight three defenders for an extra two yards and then gets stripped of the ball costing us....probably that game and home field in the playoffs.
Screw Murray I hope he rots on the sidelines in Philthy.

You're correct, that ship has sailed and good riddance.

This is sort of like the debate when we didn't draft Randy Moss.

We kept debating that and the fact we took Greg Ellis.

We clearly hurt ourselves by letting him go but now there are more issues to correct..

Love to have him back..

but don't see Philly eating the cap hit to let him walk.
