Comparing any skill position player to last season is like apples and oranges.
Yes, Murray was tremendous last season, McFadden has been only above average. The whole point was that 1300 yards is pretty easy to accomplish behind this OL in this offense. I am sure Murray could've done it even better but it's not worth what he got paid. Our mistake will alwaddenays be not drafting a back and relying on McFadden/Randle to replicate what Murray did last season.
1300 yards won't be accomplished and I don't believe it would have been had McFadden started the season. In the first 5 games he averaged under 4.0 on 37 carries. While McFadden was averaging less than 4.0 a carry the first 5 games Randle averaged over 6.0 a carry the first 5 games last season in the same role. I think Randle would have had a better shot at 1300 yards than McFadden. McFadden hasn't been consistent enough to gain 1300 yards and you can't just focus on a backs total rushing yards you have to look at their situational yards that help move the chains and put points on the board. McFadden hasn't even been average in tough yardage situations. Put a solid back behind this OL that had 3 Pro Bowlers this season and they would have lit it up taking a lot of pressure off the QB position. Despite the yards McFadden has gained the offense has been awful due to the QB position and our inability to move the chains on 3rd down.
