“Something has to be done about Thursday Night Football,” Madden said. “It just doesn’t work. It’s not only a fan thing, it’s a team thing. It’s a safety thing. It’s a competitive thing. It doesn’t work. I know about money, and I know about business. Maybe you have to tweak stuff a little more. To help teams, maybe you get a bye the week before.”

Not practical. And I'm not really sure it's that big of a deal, since we've had Thanksgiving Day games all these years with no complaint.

I think most would agree, though, that it makes a lot of sense to build into it that Thursday opponents always play home games the Sunday prior, and almost certainly, never the night game. No?

I mean, it's not a terrible idea. The problem is, now there are Thursday night games every week of the season. Are they going to give teams a bye the first week of the season because they play on Thursday week 2? Personally, I think they should keep the season opening game on that first Thursday, and then no more Thursday games.

Except the Thanksgiving games. But I agree. They should do away with Thursday night games. It's too much, it's watering down the game.

Agreed no more Thursday games, if they want to have a game on an extra day I would vote for Saturday evening.

The Thursday night match ups have been bad anyway. Time to ax all of them except Thanksgiving.

I don't think they are going to want to compete with college football on Saturday nights.

I really don't care how it's done. I would like them to add football to Fridays and Saturdays also. While we're at it let's extend the season and the rosters. Hell football 24/7

I think the Thanksgiving night game is cool too, so you can give a couple other teams a chance to play that day, but that's it.

I could see the bye week working if all teams were limited to just one Thursday game per year and the bye served as the team's by week for the year.

Of course, the way Dallas is playing its two Thursday night games would work, too, if Dallas had had a bye this past Sunday. Dallas could have played Baltimore during the Week 7 bye week and had a bye Week 11 before Thanksgiving. That would have meant the Cowboys had at least seven days between all of their games.

Other than the traditional Thankgiving games I have never liked the Thursday night game. Love football to death but it almost feels too much. I also feel you don't get teams / players at full capacity, which is like going to a Spurs game and finding out Duncan and Leonard are sitting that night (yes I know Duncan is retired).

The Thursday night game has always felt forced upon me, while lacking quality, even with them trying to spice it up by making the games division games. I'd actually prefer a Sunday morning game vs. Thursday night.

Well logically, Sat nite would be the place thur games should move to.
That way the week is only 1 day shorter and about the same as playing a early game on sunday.

I would much rather have a nfl game or 2 on sat nite than a weekly nite, or even sunday, as I could stay up later so could others.

But Sat nite has not been a good nite for ratings, done by neilsen company, which if you dont know, they monitor about
50,000 people then make estimates from that on what everyone in country is watching !
So the ratings you hear about, like 37 mil watched our last game, it is all a estimate.!!!!!!!!

They dont know for real, could have been few thousand watching, or 100 million they dont really know,. all estimated.

All they really know is more neilsen viewers watched that game than normally do.

So anyway Sat nite is known to get lower ratings, and so nfl would not make as much, and neither would the network,
or at least that is what they assume.

The only games ever on Sat are the WC games, and I always watch both those, unless I just hate 2 of the teams playing one game.

I think they should give Sat a try. also about Friday, same reason as sat , they assume bad ratings, or just not as high as the other nites.

They should try it with cowboys, and see how it does.

I also think there should only be 2 bye weeks , at mid season, 16 teams off one week,
then next week other 16 teams, then it is frickin over!!!!!!

That way every team gets a mid season rest week.
