http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/2...dership-next-season-anthony-brown’s-role-2017

Anthony Brown had his ups and downs as a rookie corner last year. With the talk of the Cowboys maybe going to the draft or free agency to help solidify the secondary, do the Cowboys look at Anthony potentially being a big part of the defense moving forward? Or does this all depend on the future of Morris Claiborne or Brandon Carr this offseason?

Rob: The Cowboys were very pleased with how Brown – a sixth-round pick with no slot experience in college – stepped in when Claiborne and Orlando Scandrick missed time with injuries. We’ll see what happens with Claiborne and Carr, who are set to be unrestricted free agents, but Brown did start nine games this season and I think he showed potential to start full time as he gets more experience. Corners are a little like pass rushers, though – you can never have enough to combat the multi-receiver sets in today’s NFL.

David: I thought Brown was phenomenal, considering he was a sixth-round rookie pressed into playing time by injuries. He wasn’t spectacular, but I think you’d be hard pressed to find a game where he was genuinely exposed as a weakness. Whatever happens in free agency and the draft, I expect Brown to have a big role in 2017 as one of this team’s top four corners. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he claimed a starting job.

i always like them but none of these had anything new to add.

I'm sure that the staff for Dallas will approach the off season in just the same way...we've already discussed everything already. Just hand out pink slips...

Perhaps when something about a topic is exciting...it shouldn't just be tossed out with the wash water. Maybe, there is something there that actually needs to be taken note of but in a new context from the immediate past.

That's it exactly, draft a CB in the first three rounds, resign Claiborne and possibly Carr and then let all three compete with Brown and Scandrick for playing time.

not saying that, did Brown earn the right to get more starting time. sure, was that anything new or out of the ordinary? noooooooo.

and yes we ll still have veteran leadership, is that anything new?

Going forward it does not matter what round Brown was drafted. He is a good player and if he becomes the starter then he needs to play like it. Same with Dak. Really no reason to bring it up any more.

Since you have already arrived at who and how good the secondary will be...start naming the starters and we'll revisit.

i never claimed what the draft and FA holds. Unlike many i wait to see what happens.

All i said was we will have veteran voices on the team nothing new was gleamed, or do you disagree?

If the Cowboys had a top shelf #1 CB, it would make it easier to Brown to be the other starter or at least compete with Scandrick to be the #2. They can use the FS more on the side with the #2 CB if the #1 CB is a top tier player. If they bring back Carr as the top CB or even if Scandrick is the top CB, then it's harder to give Brown help because Carr/Scandrick are limited.

They need to draft a CB, but even if they draft one in the first, then that could end up with a rookie and 2nd year player as the starters depending on Scandrick.

I think they should at least consider a free agent like Trumaine Johnson. He was Franchised in 2016 so he has a good chance to make it to FA. If the Cowboys were considering spend big on 1 player, I don't think any elite pass rushers are going to end up being available in FA. Obviously they should not force the signing like they did with Carr, but if he checks out when they do their homework, I think it would be a good option.

He has starter potential in my book..

Seems to me that the next TC might well be huge in terms of his development and overall adjustments to the pro game. We can be reasonably certain that the staff will afford him every opportunity to show his skills and prove himself worthy of starter consideration. His talent demands it.

I know not directed at me.....but for fun Claiborne and Brown. Carr takes more money to play elsewhere and Brown edges Scandrick out for a top 2 spot. We will have a rookie taken in the top 130 in the 4th spot. Possibly even a first rounder. Id predicted Adoree Jackson at 28 but I have run out of nerve

I love the guy, but I hope we don't put him in a starters role next year, for his sake. Talent is obvious, but I don't think he was allowed to buy a beer until two years ago. I want us to be able to let players learn and develop them(I know it's hard these days). He's got something special about him, let Mo, Carr, Church, etc. give him some pointers on how to be a cb in this scheme. He's got so much potential and he is a great fit for our d.

Darthseinfeld, I don't ever have to point out you for a discussion. You handle that territory quite well...and I always welcome a comment from your side of things.

What you present, is a strong view. Scandrick is one of the stronger CB's in the league, in the slot. Oh, I'm looking forward to decisions in the secondary. There is the makings of a very, very strong group, with just a little change.

I can see some serious competition with Scandrick and Brown. Brown played well and has alot of upside, but Scandrick is a fighter
