Wow, thats a horrible article. It makes no substantive criticism of Young other than that he's chosen a poor management team. I think this quote sums up the "worth" of this article.

When I learned that the leader of Young's posse (and the man calling the real shots for Team Vince) is a longtime friend and Houston nightclub owner who goes by the nickname "Black," that's when I told a friend to keep an eye on Young's draft stock.

Criticize his skills. Criticize his mechanics. This sort of criticism is worthless.

Playing quarterback in the NFL is the equivalent of getting in the sack with Jenna Jameson. Oh, everybody wants to do it, but it can be an incredibly humbling and "short" experience.

:laugh1:

Excellent article! Thanks for posting it.

He's right, but he could have said much more.

The quarterback position demands intelligence and good judgment. Vince Young has shown all the athleticism in the world. But he hasn't shown good intelligence and judgment. And that doesn't even begin to address the "passing" or "pro offense" arguments regarding Young.

He is going to need the perfect environment to sit and learn for at least 2 seasons, if not more.

Young has been in a slide since the combine, we see players stock rise and fall all the time before the draft. Hopefully Young will start on the upswing near the draft. Not because I want him for us but because I want someone to take him before our slot (Cutler too) and push a better player down toward us giving us more options.

I don't think Brett Farve has always shown good judgement, especially early in his career.

IMO, people nitpick too much on these players. After reading many of these same posters and mediots last year, I would have thought (Derrick Johnson?) that Linebacker from Texas was not worth a 1st day pick, let alone a high 1st round pick if I had not seen him play at UT for myself.

How long til Young puls a McNabb and claims Whitlock is guilty of "black-on-black" crime?

I agree. It was a hack job. Young might be many things, but I don't see how he is arrogant and everyone raves about his leadership skills.

he's a major project no matter how you slice him...MAJOR project

1) comes from play ground type offense that nobody in the NFL uses, or does anything even similar to

2) has never played from directly under center

3) passing ability is average at best and mediocre in most areas, doesnt have much experience throwing the ball downfield at all

4) good size and running ability, but so-so arm

5) played behind arguably the best OL in college football the past two seasons against teams that were mostly overmatched in every area

he was a great college player for most of the past two seasons, but people arnt being realistic with him in regards to his pro porspects...the facts are players with his skill set and his background offensively simply havent had much (if any) success in the NFL as a QB

I wouldnt touch him in the top part of the first rd, too much risk

This is not even close to accurate David. The one thing you consistanly hear about this Quarterback is his ability to reach back for something extra and take over a game when he needed to, while at Texas. It's the one thing every reporter hangs there hat on, where this player is concerned.

I agree with some of the others. This was not a very well written article. Young has issues but I don't think that this article really hit on them. It was designed to have another effect all together IMO.

very interesting read IMO.

I don't agree with all of it, but I do think that showing up unprepared and having to take the W test twice does show that he's not taking this seriously (or he really is stupid). Also not hiring a real agent (with NFL experience) for a potential top 3 pick is just plain ignorant.

No on can deny that Young has the physical talent to exceed, but he's got a lot to learn mentally to succeed in the NFL. UT's offense is nothing compared to what he's going to have to learn in the NFL.

I think he's far from a sure thing as some have indicated.

It's not just Young. I wouldn't touch Cutler in the top ten either. He reminds me of Browning Nagle.

Young is a much more accurate passer than Vick, yes he will need time to develop but he has all the tools.

As long as the targets are wide open, and for the most part, not moving, I'd agree.

Trouble is, they won't be running the dumbed down spread option - shotgun - "if I don't see it I'll just outrun everyone" - offense that they run in Texas, in the pros.

You do realize that it is the same O played by the number 1 pick from last year Alex Smith.

2) has never played from directly under center

Played under center 1st year at UT before they changed the O

3) passing ability is average at best and mediocre in most areas, doesnt have much experience throwing the ball downfield at all

I guess you have charted all of his throws "the pass that won the Ohio State game was downfeild".

4) good size and running ability, but so-so arm Your opinion because I have not heared that from scouts acuracy yes but arn strenght no

5) played behind arguably the best OL in college football the past two seasons against teams that were mostly overmatched in every area

Have you seen the O-line at USC and UT is in the same conference as OU

he was a great college player for most of the past two seasons, but people arnt being realistic with him in regards to his pro porspects...the facts are players with his skill set and his background offensively simply havent had much (if any) success in the NFL as a QB

Name them? I beleive Mike vick has a winning record in the playoffs and Randal Cunningham had a lot of success in the NFL.

I wouldnt touch him in the top part of the first rd, too much risk

I am not sold on VY but I am not sold on any of these QB'S I think they all have big ? surronding them actually the last Franchise QB to come out was Carson Palmer and people have been reaching the last 3 yrs IMO.
