We have all seen how well Demarcus Lawrence is playing. He is looking like a "War Daddy" this year. But let's talk about these other two starting defensive lineman for a minute. Maliek and the "Whipping Boy" for just a moment. You know Maliek Collins. 5 sacks last year. One of our favorites on defense, but the whipping boy? Not so much. He's not so well liked. Before I tell you who he is, I would like to say that I have rewatched the Cardinals game a few times and I have looked specifically on the front four DL and every snap of each starter individually multiple times, so while i may not be an expert, no, just a fan like everyone else, i have taken the time so see who did what. So let's look at some numbers here, specifically pass rush statistics.
3 QB pressures, 2 sacks.
And 7 QB pressures, 1 sack.
One of these stat lines belongs to Maliek, and the other belongs to the Whipping Boy. But which ones belong to Maliek and which one belongs to the Whipping Boy?
First, 3 QB pressures and 2 sacks belong to big Maliek. He had an EXCELLENT game.
But the 7 QB pressures, 1 sack belong to the Whipping Boy. Who is the Whipping Boy, you ask? It is no other than our own Tyrone Crawford. 7 QB pressures (yes, that sounds ridiculous for such a bum, but unfortunately for some, it's true) and one sack. Interestingly enough, 3 of his pressures came from the 3-Tech spot and the other four came from the weakside DE spot. Yes, they were down to their backup LT, who isn't very good at all, but look at some of the players Maliek and D-Law have had success against. OL talent is pretty poor these days. However, his three pressures from the 3-tech came against the C and RG, the same players Collins dominated. So there. There's it my fellow posters.

Really good post man.

I wish people could look past the contract and focus on the positives Crawford adds to this team. He's by far our most versatile lineman and plays multiple positions at an above average level. When they line him up at end he's one of the strongest edge rushers in the league and was a huge reason why this defense finished number 1 overall in rushing defense last year. He gets a lot of those pressures with brute strength.

Crawford had a great game, no doubt. I've criticized him plenty, but he was very active last week. Now to string together a few of those and stay healthy.

D Moore looked okay to me, didn't he have a sack and a couple pressures? Dint play that many snaps either
I believe is was Moore along with Crawford closing in on Palmer that forced Palmer to step up into the pocket that allowed Maliek to get his second sack on a three man rush.

Crawford had a nice game.

I made jokes about how slow he runs in the game day thread, but he was really active.

I would still like to see him at 265-270lbs to see if he'd have more burst.

At DE he is terrific against the run. They moved him to LDE last season because they were getting gashed by the run.

Crawford's problem is he is a jack of all trades and a master of none.
So far this year he's slightly outperforming Collins at the 3-tech (on film), and he's performed pretty darn well at end.
He's not elite like his contract would imply but he has been very good so far this year.

Exactly. He's literally one of the best DEs in the league against the run when they line him up there.

Well said. Anytime you can dog a QB like that with a three man rush you're doing something right, even if the OL quality was poor. They're going to need this when Green Bay comes up,,, that and some Vaseline on their jerseys to stop the Packers from holding.

ok great the guys dominated a depleted line. are we so hard up that his warrants "good game" for everyone? not really. Good game that some needed it to start a stepping stone. But T Crawford got paid, lets see something for that dollars, depleted or full strength. Lets see what D law does to quality talent first.

Im not stating either sucks. but i just want the contract to match the talent from now on. Yes i do think T Craw got overpaid. I think thats been established. Do i think DLaw is earning a new contract, not yet. Lets see how the season plays out. And lets not just base it off sacks . If hes being double teamed or teams take him serious, than lets establish that as well instead of saying "no sacks, he sucked" no, there is more to the player than just sacks. lets keep it in perspective. he earned a "good game" but its a stepping stone, not a seasons worth. He has to build on this and he has to show case what he can do for the future.

Didn't notice Crawford the 1st 2 games but I did Monday night. Played pretty good.
Against Denver he was able to beat Leary six or seven times with his initial quickness.
Had a few pressures, a couple good plays against the run.

Our fans act like it's their money. Barring injuries Crawford is a very good player.

I've seen one good game. This last one. He's been invisible before then.

And I haven't seen anyone - not one person - who thinks he's outperformed Maliek Collins anywhere.
