Short and sweet. Do you feel that Collins is ready to be the center peice of our defensive line?

I absolutely do. I think we see him come in vastly improved after a year in the system. And he was dang good for a rookie. If the rest of our draft had been Ho-Hum, we'd all be pretty excited about this guy's future.

He plays 3-Tech but I like what I see so far, pleasantly surprised by his early production.

The question is vague.

Are you asking if he will be the best player on the DL?
If he is ready to be the catalytic player on the defensive line. The player that is going to dictate how offenses scheme against us. Essentially the best player, however saying best player in and off itself could be vague. Depends on what you value when you are looking for your best player. Raw stats or the player that dictates what offense do and can do. Usually is the same player, but not always. Thats why I worded it as " center peice"

Also with these threads I do like to keep it somewhat vague to get many different opinions from people.

If your 3-Tech commands more attention (Double teams,) than your 1-Tech, he can then become that centerpiece but your line will be off balance.

Collins seems to be one that could excel with less weight on his frame, gain speed, etc to be more of a pass rusher than a run stopper. Not to say he can't excel at both whereby gaining weight but he can be more useful getting more sacks.

Should be a good starting player. Will be a more powerful player with improved strength which should make him a better defender vs the run.

His enough but more strength and quickness should be expected.
Still would like to upgrade the D1

He could be the Russell Maryland of a solid D. Not a game changer.

I like Collins, I liked him before the draft...Do I think he is a perennial pro bowl talent that is a constant force and gets 8+ sacks a year? No. Can he be a really solid starting player who occasionally flashes dominance? Yeah, I can see that. Not sure who that comparison is, but I see him as a tier below the Cox, Donald, McCoy, Atkins type DT's (I'm sure I'm missing a couple too). Maybe a Jurrell Casey comparison? Really good player to have on your team, but are teams game planning around him? Ehh, don't think so.

He is much quicker off the ball and has more pass rush moves than our former 1T ever did. Jimmie Jones is the comparison.
I was not comparing their skill sets. I was comparing the relative value of the player.
