That run against Washington in 1991 is still one of the greatest things I've ever seen on a football field

Man, that was great!! Good job!

I remember hearing/reading someone saying that Emmitt wouldn't last long in the NFL because he was taking too much abuse. He was getting hit 3-4 times on every carry because he ran through the first hit.

If that person wasn't so correct, Emmitt might have done something really remarkable, like break the all time rushing record.

Anyone that tries to downplay his success by saying he was behind great lines needs to shut up. He was flat out a great back and a warrior. My favorite NFL back to ever watch play.

Agreed. Just watch those highlites. Watch how many times the line opened something on one side, but he cut back to the other. That takes vision, cutback ability, and power.

What made him great has been talked about and debated ad infinitum - heart, strength, cutback ability, etc. But the two things that have always stood out for me are the vision and balance.

Look at how many times in the clip, he's hit, almost brought down, but manages to retain his feet and keep on...difference between good and great. And the cutbacks and the fact that he never took BIG shots til the end of his career are a testament to his vision, and I think a key reason he experienced the longevity he did.

I'm tearing up.

There should be a unanimous vote throughout the process, but should ANY pro football hall of fame selector even blink during Emmitt Smith's enshrinement discussions, they should look at this clip and shut their festering gobs before uttering a single word of dissent.

Oh that brought back memories. Seems so long ago since we had the opportunity to watch Emmitt play--more then a decade since we fielded our great Cowboy team. In a few more years Emmitt will be in the HOF and our Triplets will be joined there forever in our hearts and minds.

I don't see how anyone can honestly say that Emmitt was not GREAT. He made his teammates better. WHEN EMMITT DIDN'T PLAY, THE COWBOYS DIDN'T WIN. Period. And we're talking about maybe the deepest, most talented NFL roster of all time. That's all anyone needs to know.

Emmit did have an amazing line, true, and maybe he wouldn't have had so many yards and touchdowns had he been on another team, but Emmit is legitmately an amzing back. He has such amazing balance and juke moves, he should have been brought down on so many of those plays, but he fought. He was awesome, especially considering his lack of speed. Also, people forget that Emmit was given the ball EVERY down when the Boys' were in the redzone;teams just put eight in the box because they knew he would run it...that is just a testament to his ability that he was still able to score even against the defenses knowing he was going to have the ball in his hands.
