Honestly, if we go young, hot coordinator, it will be Garrett.
I Garrett still considered hot ? Hot seat maybe.

I mentioned it in your thread the other day. I'd been reading rumblings for weeks now about them possibly letting him go.

His firing ranks right up there with Schottenheimer's firing to me.

Mangini needs to be hired the moment he is let go by the Jets....the guy has a very good football mind. Whether it be as defensive cordinator or head coach...either one would be fine by me.

Mangini ousted as Jets coach

Eric Mangini is out as head coach of the New York Jets after the team lost four of its last five games to finish out of the playoffs.

The clincher was the Jets' 24-17 loss to Miami on Sunday that gave the Dolphins the AFC East title.

"We don't take this decision lightly," Jets owner woody johnson said at a Monday morning news conference. "We respect Eric for what he's done but we want to build on the successful foundation he has laid."

Mangini, 37, was 23-26 in three seasons with the Jets, including 0-1 in the playoffs.
"We've made the decision to move on," Johnson said.

The Jets acquired Brett Favre before the season started and ran off to an 8-3 start. But losses to Denver, at San Francisco, at Seattle and Sunday to the Dolphins left New York on the outside of the playoffs for the second straight season.

1-4 to close the season.

see ya.

they were 8-3 and in a position to win the division and get the 2 seed against a soft schedule.

no reason he shouldn't be fired.

He can come here and be DC and we can hire Josh Mc Daniels to be HC.
I would be all about that. McDaniels has certainly earned his shot.

McDaniels is likely never leaving New England.

And, honestly, at this point why would I want someone from there? Charlie Weis? He's not doing so hot after supposedly being a genius there. Crennel? Again not all that great after supposedly being so great there.

Eric was solid but nothing to write home about in 3 seasons with the Jets so again I'm not sure where anyone gets the idea that being a New England assistant, at this point, means anything in terms of success outside of that franchise.

What if Stewart was gone and Mangini brought in to be the DC?

Would you like it?

I'd take him as a backup! Anything is better than Brad Johnson!

Maybe I put too much stock in appearances on the sidelines, but Mangini has always struck me as a guy who does not look like a leader. He always looks like a little kid chewing his gum. I'm not slamming the guy, it's just an observation. It's a Wade Phillips quality that simply does not exude leadership.

I don't know if my observation is an accurate indicator of him as a HC, and I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not surprised they let him go.

Interesting you say that. One of the reasons why there are rumors that Favre was unhappy was that Mangini was holding him accountable for all his screwups. In Green Bay, there were team rules and then Favre rules. In NY, he was held to the same standard and was called on the carpet in Mangini's office and in front of the other players.

And based on other comments I've read, he was actually a Tom Coughlin clone.

Thanks for the info. I admit I haven't read a lot about him. If he is that way he will get another shot unless the whole Patriotgate scandal has made other teams shy away from him.

I like a coach who holds players accountable. That's Wade's biggest failure as a HC, imo.

I thought he would get another year too. Actually rumor has it, Favre did not like playing for Mangini. This actually might entice Favre to come back for another year.

Stupid move. He took a team that I and most realists expected to go 7-9 even with Favre to 9-7 and on the cusp of a playoff berth and gets fired. Meanwhile, Wade Phillips took a team that many (not I) expected to go to the Super Bowl to the same record, but he gets a strong vote of confidence.

That's exactly why it was done.
