Fatty's out. Pretty expected. Few whispers that KU might hunt the HC from Stanford.

No way Harbaugh would take the KU job... that's a serious step down.

I agree with Dan Patrick, Magino (sp) was too fat and ugly to lead a major college program.

This is a stupid opinion. I'm sorry.

KU is not a major college football program. They are a major college, but their football program had essentially been non-existent until Mangino took over.

I understand the unpleasantries having a very large coach w/ a temper but Mangino put KU on the map. He is the reason they were recruiting so well. He is the reason KU was finally winning and contending.

I am laughing my butt off. I figured he would get the can but now its back in the toilet for KU.

They are SERIOUSLY smoking something if KU thinks for a second that Harbaugh would leave Stanford for that crapper. Not only do they flat out stink again but they don't have near the money it would take to get him.

No offense to you Jayhawk fans...but your pre-Mangino past is about to repeat itself.

Thread title made me laugh.

And Dan Patricks opinion was more of a question of coaches having to look the part.

I think it's valid.

Not to derail the thread, but did anyone ever think Campo would be a successful coach, based on his appearance? Short, frumpy, glasses....

I think it's common knowledge that many people judge others based on their looks, and the impression you make on someone sets the tone in a lot of ways.

Oh, and I don't think DP ever stated that Mangino shouldn't be a coach, instead he just asked Mangino if it was more challenging for him since he didn't look like a typical coach.

Think... you have a 18 year old 5* son, and Mangino and his 400lbs waistline comes on a recruiting visit. He's all fat and sweating and his clothes are all coming untucked during the interview.

Then Urban Meyer or Lane Kiffin comes in.

On face value, who impresses you more?

Sadly that plays a very large part in a lot of things. Personal appearance and togetherness plays a huge role in first impressions.

I have a friend at my office. We work together and have been doing so since he joined my staff about 9 years ago. I have been at my job longer and have seniority over him. Well our boss recently retired and everyone was looking to me to take over, but I am not interested. For me they dont compensate enough for all of the extra headaches and political BS I would have to constantly be involved in. So I wasn't interested. Well I encouraged my friend to go for it because there isn't anyone more qualified to do it who would be interested. So he applies and puts in his resume w/ 10 years work experience on our network and 20 other years exp in the field.

Long story short he didn't get the job. As a matter of fact, they offered it to like 2 other people who work outside state government. People who have no experience in gov or our systems. Well it really upset him and he just couldn't understand why. He had a great interview and he had all of the experience they were looking for and he's been there for so long. We also always promote our employees so this was a very strange occurance.

Anyways they are posting the job again and the *******es who orig did the interview process have since left and retired and our new director is in place. Again another guy from outside gov but a real IT director (FINALLY) and a very nice man. So I am encouraging him to put his name back in the hat again and go through it. Oh - my friend has also been the acting manager since our boss left. Our old boss even nominated him to be acting and hes been doing a bang up job.

Again long story short right? Sooooo he can't figure out what happened but I personally think his appearance really hurts him. He is a big guy and I mean a very big guy (like 380lbs 6'2) and isn't the most well dressed person. We all aren't. We work and we sometimes rack and re-rack servers (well I don't - I make my techs do it, but i wont pass up jeans and t-shirt) and move things around in our data center so we are a real casual crew. I think mostly we wear jeans and t-shirts. Hey we are geeks, what do you expect? :)

So yeah - I see your point and I think that is a huge reason my friend was initially passed over for this job. Of course they won't ever say that. They gave him some BS excuse about managing exp or something or other but the job said lead experience qualifies and we both have been acting managers and project leads hundreds of times and he got his interview so he OBVIOUSLY qualified.

But yeah.....appearance is HUGE in our society.

Im just glad I look like Brad Pitt and dance like Donny Osmond. :p:

there are exceptions of course. Jimmy Johnson didn't look that impressive while he was coaching at The U or in his early seasons at Dallas. He was short and tubby and very similar looking to Campo. No one would ever say that Parcells looks impressive.

There are exceptions to the rule, naturally.

But rarely do you see disgustingly obese coaches. Andy Reid is a big boy, but he's no Mangino.

Mangino is so fat that when he sweats, beef comes out of his pores. This is fact. Could you imagine being so fat that you sweat beef?

I agree. They went from a nothing football school into a team going to bowl games. For all the mans flaws he put KU on the football map.
