I would say that quote does apply to Manziel. He just doesn't realize he is out of control and not just partying.

Yep. He's on a bad path, for sure. Most of the time we're so envious of the positions these guys have worked to put themselves in, we don't realize the level of stress that comes with it. Can you imagine having the weight of a billion-dollar organization riding on your shoulders at 22? And the media and public attention that comes with that? Many players handle it with no problem. Some of them eventually crack.

I suspect it's far worse than even that.

He's been seen snorting cocaine in public bathrooms with camera phones rolling. He's been in violent confrontations with his girlfriend. He's not committed as a player to watch film and study, and he openly lies to his coaches and organization on a host of matters.

This is more than a substance-abuse issue.
