he's had happy feet since he started playing football, that'll stop when he quits playing football.

Psh!...been lurking here since 2004 friend; by all intents and purposes that establishes me as an esteemed and valuable commodity to these here forums, show some respect to your elders.

Real talk though, I rarely if ever post so I haven't felt much incentive to change my profile pic, nor have I found one that is suitable to my liking yet, nor do I follow football as stringently as I used to when I was younger, which is why I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm misinformed on alot of topics and instead rely on "experts" such as yourself to keep me in the loop. If you're going to pick apart my post and single out a single phrase to grill me with regarding my pondering of drafting Manziel, atleast have the common courtesy to read the rest of the thread and acknowledge that I have come to terms with the insanity of such a proposition and retracted my original statement.

I'm just giving ya crap, and I've been lurking since 04 joined in 05.

No worries man!

He actually looked like the JFF at UT out there. Just preseason, but last year he looked awful.

You mean JFF at UT:

I wish Jerry would trade for Johnny Football. The price should be low and he can't be worse than Weeden.

If Cleveland, who watches him everyday in practice is willing to get rid of him for a low price, that should tell you all you need to know. Not to mention, what makes you think Manziel is gonna put the work in when he has a 0% chance of out playing the starter? Yes, right now he appears like he knows he's fighting for his football life, but considering he has a journeymen QB in front of him, the payoff could be near immediate. In Dallas, it would take a lot a patience and maturity to sit for 2-3 more years without any chance of playing barring injury and I don't think he's ever going to be that mature.

And on top of that, I also don't think he has the talent to be an NFL starting QB.

I wish Jerry would trade for Johnny Football.

That will never happen. If the Cowboys had questions about his ability to play in this league before that draft, I can't imagine they have seen anything to lead them to give up a draft pick for him.

He seems to have sobered up , matured a little, and is trying now, but he needs to learn and practice more.
He seems too small, but time will tell.

Anyone watch last night's game? I thought Manziel outplayed McCown, who had 2 INTs. Manziel got them a touchdown on a nice drive that featured a couple of great passes.

He had some receivers drop a few things, but generally speaking I thought he did well within the gameplan that was called. Made a few Manziel-type runs, and had some mistakes as well. A few dangerous throws that could've been picked off.

He still needs developing though, which he's not going to get unless he plays.

He wasn't terrible...had a couple of nice plays vs the backups.
Overall, I think he helped himself.

McCown did have a bad outing, but in all fairness, he was facing one of the best starting defensive units in all of football.
Many QBs had terrible games vs that group last year.
Rodgers, for example, had his worst game in years (0 TDs, 2 ints, 17-42, 40 QBrating). They're very good.

I was fairly impressed. There were quite a few times where he read the defensive pressure and got the ball out to his receivers. He has made great strides since last season.

Yes, I watched it, and all I could think was, "How could anyone think that guy was worthy of a first-round pick?" He's a backup at best.

Glad Jerry was tied to the chair with a sock in his mouth. He looked miserable when they took Zack Martin.

To me, Manziel's biggest mistake was choosing to go pro after his sophomore season. He needed two more years in college, maturing both in the game and personally as well. This upcoming season really should be his senior year at A&M.

In a way it's like the guys who leave college basketball early to join the NBA, and they aren't ready for hit early on. It takes a few years to develop. DeAndre Jordan is a prime example of that (and ironically another Aggie). He sat on the bench his first few years. He would've done well to play another couple of years in college and then go pro.

I think in the long run it may not hurt players, if they are still given the opportunity to develop as a pro. But most aren't given that opportunity. It's a win-now league, especially for a first rounder. That was Manziel's mistake.

I thought the same thing just as I did 2 years ago and I will 2 years from now.
