Yes. I really think THAT. I love gansta rap, and LOOK AT me. I'm pretty much perfect.

seriously...where do you come up with this stuff?

LOL

I agree I love the music caused my kid to do this angle...awesome...
(Howcome the people who blame the music never blame guns or there makers?)

i listen to all kinds of music, I couldnt name 3 rappers currently cause i think they all stink and much like metal in the 80s it is just a cash cow for record companies, however I love "old school rap" Nothing better than nwa, public enemy, epmd etc....they had a message, they were pioneers.

anyway. Wiley is good on tv. I have seen him no espn twice, it is nice to have someone on there that is not a moron and will just talk about what he saw.

more wiley on espn please. Oh and more eric allen too. Less schlereth, salisbury, buchannon, sean king and keyshawn.

oh and for everyone bagging on wiley, he was a standout player for wade phillips. he was terrific in 98 and 99

Does hip-hop and rap inspire life? Or is hip-hop and rap inspired by life?

I think if Neil Young had grown up in the neighborhood, watching drugs being dealt, people being shot, and women turning into "hoes", he'd have ended up writing about that, too.

Even if life inspires hip hop or gangsta rap, it is undeniable that a fair percentage of such songs celebrate debauchery, disrespect for women, and criminal behavior.

It's fine to write about it, but it would be just as easy to denounce such behavior as to celebrate it.

IMO, the music is not to blame, but it may catalyze violent behavior by giving it legitimacy.

I think all the hate towards Whitlock is misplaced. I think he has a point which might otherwise stand up to logical scrutiny but gets buried underneath the ST deification.

While Taylor was a target, as Wiley suggested, it seems that there was some loose personal connection between Taylor and the accused. This wasn't some random thing. It seems possible to me that Wiley and Whitlock could both be right in this case...

No doubt. Legitmizing or glorifying. That's where it becomes incumbent upon parents to take over. IMO, we should focus on making sure children grow up with a half-decent father in their household rather than the type of music they listen to. Sex and violence are glorified in plenty of media outlets, it's up to parents to control how much of that their children can take in or handle.

In any case, Whitlock's piece was crass and misplaced. He saw an opportunity for some tub-thumping, but he was off-base.

Marcellus isn't that great of a writer, but it's a good article. ;)

Good take by Wiley.

You could certainly make his article easier to read. But he makes excellent points. After reading this and hearing him this am on mike&mike, I am impressed with his intellect and his "presence" on the radio. Get used to Dat Dude as an analyst. I think we're going to like him.
