Texans just released Marcus Coleman, Tony Banks and Tony Hollins.

I expect a lot of big names to be released in the next 48 hours as teams try to get under the cap.

Coleman is from Dallas and is good buddies with Aaron Glenn. Not hard to connect the dots on this one.

There is a lot of value in safeties in the middle rounds and I'd still like to grab one, but I wouldn't trust any of them to start next year.

Hard to get excited about a 32 year old, 10 yr. FS, who had 1 int last year. I hope we upgrade at Fs better than that.

There are going to be a lot of quality and very good free agents out there. The draft really could be a BPA thing for us! Free agents flooding the market, good things can happen! I think the laws of supply and demand dictate that with plenty of free agents, the price goes down for each one.

Sure, just start naming names and how much over market value you're willing to spend, and I'm willing to listen.

I believe in adding young talent through the draft and filling immediate holes in free agency. The more cost effective, the better. I don't believe handing out a $9-$13 signing bonus to a "pretty good" 26 year old just because he's 26 is necessarily a wise signing. I believe that's a Fred Smoot type of signing that most teams regret 2-3 years down the road.

Was last year Coleman's first year at FS, or his second? I thought I'd heard complaints from Texans fans, saying he didn't make the transition too well? Is that true?

Regardless, he's a player Parcells likes and repeatedly praises during news conferences. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him.

McGinnest, Coleman, Fabini, Mawae....if all these types of players end up being canned, could we be in for an All-Parcells type off-season? Just curious what everyone thinks about the possibility of it happening.

Irony is, despite their ages, each of those players -- when comparing price to performance -- may not be too bad of bargains for the short term. The obvious problem is they're just that: short-term answers and very old. :)

When you end the season with Tony Dixon and Lynn Scott back on your roster for another season, its time to take a proactive approach instead of a "fingers-crossed, wait and see if maybe something doesn't fall in our laps" approach to the position. I think we have a couple of available open roster slots at the safety position for a young guy AND a veteran. Aside from the names mentioned above, who I dare not speak their names twice, I'm also not sure if Willie Pile is someone who makes the roster on a contending caliber team either.

Wow, remember when we considered (or did we actually submit it) using a second rounder on Tony Hollings in the supplemental draft? I have to admit, I was all for it, too.:

What's the story on releasing him? It can't be a cap issue. Maybe he's just that bad?

He was always hurt and had fumble problems. Yep, I was one of those that liked him a lot coming out of the supp draft as well. Saw in in training camp at the Alamo Dome and I was kicking myself even harder. He had raw talent, that's for sure. The dude could smoke turning the corner.

I agree 100%

I cant understand why people in thos forum are so obsessed with old players...we'll never be a super bowl team again if they just keep adding aging, way past their prime scrubs

honestly, that would be a truly horrendous offseason and further proof for me that Parcells is not the coach that will ever lead this team to a championship

all those guys are way too old and past their primes to be useful here

Never put it all together, to keep it simple. He hasnt adapted to the pro game although his measurables would agree with a guy like Ahman Green, he just hasnt blossomed like Green did. Hopefully a change of scenery for this former Yellow Jacket.

You mean exactly like the way Belichick rebuilt the Patriots and won his first Superbowl? Yep, that's proven not to work.

Inman,

No offense, but sometimes I read your posts and you come across as thin-skinned.

You are a poster I respect and I enjoy your point of view and knowledge of league issues.

Do you know how Coleman played last year? Obviously the Texans defense was atrocious last year and when I looked at his stats on NFL.com he didn't look like he had that good of a year. He's been around so long, do you really think he can help us?

Obviously he would probably be better than Lynn Scott, Dixon, Davis, etc. but does he have any gas left in the tank from what you know?
