Jaylon Smith - LB - Cowboys
Cowboys DC Rod Marinelli was excited by ILB Jaylon Smith's debut.

"Oh, boy," Marinelli said. "He's got natural instincts with leverage. He's just so hungry. The energy." Smith only played 12 snaps, but he made them count, stopping Jack Doyle short of the marker on a third-down catch. His role will likely be limited early, but Smith is clearly trending up.

I wasn't super excited about his performance but he brought a different type of energy to the field just by being out there.

For me personally I was actually excited to watch the defense. I wanted the Colts to have the ball.

This could be one of those players that just bring a jolt of adrenaline to the entire D.

He does look like he has a hitch in his step though.

I share your enthusiasm as well CATCH.

It seems he can't plant and pivot his left foot. But other than that I'm happy to see him out there and to show his athleticism. He looks very fast out there for a linebacker. Someone with 4.4 speed.

If he finally stops worrying about his footwork and decides to just play football and be a playmaker then watch out. I think he'll become our best passrusher when everything is all set and done.

We can all speculate I guess and in a way
He does seem to have that hitch at times. Which is weird bc at moments he's smooth as can be. That's why I think his thing is mental. I've seen people recover from knee injuries and be at 100% and still walk funny..

LOL......the way I see it, hitch or no hitch, as long as he gets to where he's supposed to be is all that matters. May not be the prettiest out there but if he gets the job done......

Yes, he even said this week that he is only really a linear player right now.
That he is, in fact, limited.

I think he, and the team, expect that to eventually get better.

To me he looks smooth going forward and when he has to cut or turn is when you see him look a little off.

It's like he's Jaylon Smith going forward and then turns into old Bradie James going sideways or needing to turn quick.

Sideways he just runs awkwardly. But glad he is back and he will get better with each week!!!!

I think he is fine. I'm just nitpicky and seeing this details that most people don't see. Does it matter? Probably not. Because the things that really matter is his quickness, explosiveness and athletic abilities are all still there. He can still play with that little hitch and eventually it will start to disappear. The more he plays the more it will disappear. He just needs to trust it that everything is ok and play football like he was never injured.

I guess an analogy would be having a tooth removed from a toothache. Yet your mind plays tricks and tells your tongue its still there. Hope that kinda makes sense?

I have a strange feeling Jaylon will begin the year on IR. He's not ready yet.

lol He won't be on IR. There is zero indication that he will be on IR to start the year. That is being a bit over the top erod come on man.
There is an IR designation that allowed them to take him off. He needs more time.
