Marinelli needs to watch Playoff game against the Rams and get a reality check. His defense was trash and DT were non existent, that whole squad choked like a little *****.

We need a true NT if this team ever wants to make it to NFC championship let alone win the SB.

Marinelli is poor at developing DTs , Jerry Jones need to be scouting for a NT after roster cut or acquire one via trade for mid round pick. (Chicago Bears)

The Rams won with their blocking scheme.

Switch defensive rosters with the Pats and the Pats still win and the Cowboys still lose those playoff games.

if we need a true NT (and what determines a true NT?) doe that mean that we also need to change the DL coach that apparently does not care for the traditional, true NT in his DL ?

Marinelli is the DC who doubles as the DL coach, and he needs to be overruled.

Ironically, contrary to what many still believe, Marinelli only holds the title of DC, but his sole responsibility is the front four, while Richard actually calls the defensive signals and takes responsibility for the back seven ,..the LBs and secondary. During the rams game, we saw Richards getting in the face of the LBs,.. not Marinelli.
anything that goes down on the defensive side of the ball- all eyes point towards

As far as the DT role goes, Rod has always more preferred movement over bulk. Which is not unusual, as Jimmie Johnson's DT was the same. He didn't want DT that just take up space, (ala Freddie Gilbert, GB) he wanted his DTs moving and penetrating. and if you think about Jimmies DTs ( Lett, Maryland, Casillas, henning, jones) were actually even lesser bulk than the current Marinelli DTs (Woods, Collins) who are in the 310 pound range.

Interesting enough, reports were at draft time that the Cowboys were seriously considering mammoth DT Vita Vea (Bucs) and even at 330+ pounds the Cowboys brass considered him a 1 tech that had 3- tech traits, the " quick-twitch " as I've heard the Marinelli term called.

Imo, if you can find the smaller DT that plays stronger than what his size suggest, then i'm all for it, If you keep finding your 1 techs and 3 techs still getting wipe out vs the run (especially on the Road!!) as well as we keep rolling with these just decent/ok 1 techs every other year (Hayden, McClain, Paea, Thorton, Woods, etc. etc) then we are going to remain limited and it's only a matter of time before it comes back to hurt us. (ala Indy, Rams-playoff game)
That's not going to change until we change the preference of the DL coach, as I see it.

Yes, however, Jimmy did the one thing that allows you to get by w/o that size in the middle: Acquire a pack of talented DT's. He kept them fresh. He also continuously drafted them. Heck, Jimmie Jones would've started for the majority of NFL teams.

You need size in the playoffs, especially in the NFC.

Yup. Our OL got pushed around bad until we started filling it w/ monsters. Now, we simply need to do the same to the DLine.

Any possible candidates to pickup after roster cuts?

No one in particular, but there's always candidates. You won't so much get a playmaker as simply a rock.

The Lions gave up a 5th for Snacks Harrison which was a steal, and here we are with our lunch pail guys.

And they signed CJ Anderson in the offseason and we play them again this year. Hope we can break the curse.
