I wouldn't mind having Rod back for several more years. He has actually done a much better job than he is given credit for. I do wish he was a little more aggressive more often. When we starting stacking the line against Rodgers and he didn't know where the pressure was coming from is when the tide started turning in that playoff game. I would like to see that more often.

Every time Rod has had the talent to work with hes always had top 5 defenses. Tampa was a historic defense and the Chicago bears had great defenses.

It seems Marinelli has done a good job with what he has had to work with. Does he want to coach much longer? He should be an asset. I mean Dick Lebeau coached until he was 147 yrs old....

This isn't an issue of opinion. These are facts.
What facts? You said you can tell someone doesn't know what they're talking about on how they judge Rod. I'm assuming you mean anyone who doesn't think he's that great has no knowledge of football, right? So again, where are these facts? It's all your opinion.

Anyone that doesn't think Rod is a good coach doesn't know what they're talking about. That is a fact.

It's kinda like saying 2+2 = 4 is just my opinion.

That is not a fact. Go back to elementary school and learn what a fact means.

Ok I have never seen a teams defense criticized year after year , and yet the DC is considered
by team and most fans to be a great coach.
I think now that they let the secondary go, the team is committed now to Maranelli
for the next 5 years at least.
The players we draft are going to be guys he wants? or the types he wants, so it seems like
a waste if he isnt going to be here another 5 years.

He is getting old, so will his health hold up another 5?
Was it wise to commit to building a defense with a old def coach?

I think it might have been better to hire a young guy and build with and for him.
Let him pick the def guys we are about to draft and pickup.

only time will tell, but the bend dont break seems to me to be outdated.
Sometimes bending will beat you like in the GB playoff game, they didnt break they bent lol
and that was enough.
People kill me with this. What talent has he had outside of Sean Lee to work with since he's been here? Our offense is going to be set for the next decade so now they're working on defense and that's why they re-signed him. Just let the process play out and everything will be OK. The same rumblings were mentioned about JG a few years ago and he just was your coach of the year.

I literally had someone attempt to debate me that Rod never had a good defense besides Tampa Bay. Like they completely ignored the Bears defense that was one of the best defenses in the league for several years. No one wanted to play that Chicago defense. If you were into Fantasy Football, they were the #1 defense because they just caused complete mayhem.

That defense had talent, but it's not like it was some crazy all-pro at every position defense. They had Urlacher, Tillman, Briggs, and Peppers. I think they had Jennings at #2 but not positive. Henry Melton was good but then just fell off a cliff afterwards. Their safeties weren't great, they were reliable. We probably have a better safety in Jones than they had in Chicago.

Meanwhile, in Dallas, we've had one of the worst front 7's in the league year after year, and completely mediocre secondary play, and still Rod had one of the top D's in turnovers in 2014 of which I still believe was one of the best coaching jobs of the year.

The defense as a whole overperformed in 2016 too. He got that bunch to play better than half the defenses in the league. With Claiborne missing half the year, and Lawrence/Crawford banged up too. They had no business competing with the better teams in the league, and they actually played pretty damn well when they weren't getting held the entire game. I don't think they allowed a single 100 yard rusher either. We have a lot of young guys on defense, especially DL, that will be better this year just because they're getting some time in the league and have some potential, but the talent level of last years team with the injuries was abysmal. Just bad.

I'm glad they brought in so many guys on defense for visits, and seem to be targetting some legit talent. Even the later round secondary guys take away the ball.

We really haven't had any players at all that fit a pressure/take the ball away scheme. Lawrence couldn't stay healthy, Gregory can't get on the field. What Rod has accomplished this defense that has been mis-managed, until really about last year, has been pretty incredible.

If Garrett doesn't put something together soon, Jones WILL fire him. He won't waste the talent of more young players on Garrett.

Another 5 years for either coordinator is unlikely. More likely they would be fired or get head coaching positions within that time frame.
I doubt it, getting rid of romo takes the now window pressure off, and with young qb and rebuilding defense, they have years of excuses,
and can keep people thinking they are close, just another year or 2.

marinelli just got a extension, not sure on the details.
at least 3 more years on these coaches.

Ok people say he doesnt have talent, but he will never have known talent.
the rookies we draft this year, will have to make a rep , and if the DC isnt doing a good job they
will not be seen as talent.
They will be seen as busts or jags.

A good dc will help players make a rep and seen as talent.

You hit the nail on the head. Imagine he was here when we had Ware, Hatcher and Spencer. Holy cow!
