Bust. Elite. Why is everyone so obsessed with absolutes?

If anyone is a bust its the guy Barber shared the backfield with at Minnesota and was drafted in the 1st round, Mr. Laurence Maroney.

EDIT: Belichick drafted him so that voids his bust status.

So, this should be Murray's last year?

With all his injuries, Murray could very well be done by mid-season. Who knows?

Yahoo Contributor Network is essentially the same concept as Bleacher Report -- articles written by "users like you." Not exactly the pinnacle of journalistic integrity.

The author of this particular article is a college student at UNLV.

Bleacher Report lets college kids write for them? I thought one needed a degree in journalism to report there.

he got busted--his style wore him down, but except for Duane Thomas, no other Cowboy back gave me more thrills in a short career than he. he was the heart and soul of those Cowboy teams

The Cowboys should have kept him as our backup. Making him a starter ruined him.

I guess you could say he was a bust for the contract they later gave him. He declined way too fast even for a physical RB.

Look at the other names on the list and then think back to some of the busts the Cowboys have had. While osme of these guys are bad, they can't hold a candle to many of the other stinkers. It's obvious this author thinks the NFL started about 20 years ago.

Shante Carver, Mike Sherrard(I know inj were his downfall but still got nothing out of a first rounder), Kevin Brooks, Jesse Penn, Billy Cannon, Jr....the list goes on and on.

Yeah, not sure how anyone could put Barber on that list. For that matter, I'd don't think I would consider a 2nd rounder a bust. Yes, Quincy got busted but I wouldn't say he was a bust in the traditional sense (always think of 1st round picks). And I wouldn't put Jones on there either. But that's just me. Closest thing to a 2nd round bust to me for the Cowboys would be Dwayne Goodrich.

He was a tremendous draft pick, then Jerry turned him into a bust when he gave him a king's ransom for a second contract.

Jerry's the bust. Barber was just smart enough to sign a fat contract after he'd already lost a step.

I don't really have to much of an issue with anybody on that list, other then MBIII. I don't believe he was a bust. I think his follow-on contract was a bad one for us to sign to but he was not a bust IMO. He was very good his first few years in the league IMO. Great value until the scheme changed and he started breaking down a little bit.

LaFluer, IMO, was an injury issue more then anything but strictly speaking, a 1st round pick who only played for 4 seasons and who provided the production he did could be considered a bust IMO. More so because the back issues were there in college but we didn't feel as though they were significant enough to take him lower or take him off our board. Instead, we moved forward and drafted him in the 1st.

The others, IMO, were all busts. JMO

I will echo what several have already said. There is no way he was a bust as a draft pick. Great production and longevity for a 4th round pick. His new contract was a horrible decision and a misallocation of cap resources.

For a 4th round pick he was not a bust, for his contact extension he was a bust

So we're judging "busts" on contracts given to them? Not based on draft status? I guess anything to continue to put a black eye on this franchise. Barber was a 4th round pick who's career was cut short due to his physical play. He also made a Pro Bowl. There are some 1st round picks who never even make it past a offseason.
