As a 21-year-old star with the Indianapolis Colts, Marshall Faulk would've loved to have had the kind of relationship with someone that he has with Ezekiel Elliott.

Faulk is a confidant. A big brother. A friend.

It's a relationship that began when Elliott was a high school star in St. Louis, where Faulk played after the Colts traded him to the Rams prior to the 1999 season.

It continued while Elliott spent three seasons at Ohio State, and nothing changed during his rookie season with the Dallas Cowboys.

"I hate to use the word mentor," Faulk said. "We have a friendship. There are things he trusts me with and that he'll ask about -- and even if he doesn't ask, I'll drop it by him.

I like it. Faulk was one of the most complete backs in NFL history. Looks like he's been mentoring Zeke for a few years now. Thoughts?

I wonder how Faulk really thought about Zeke getting drafted by a team he completely hates.

He didn't even seem like as much of a hater last year.

He may not care about the team at all. It's good business in sports media to hate the Cowboys. I am sure the network would also want to push him to be the opposite of Irvin.

What many here call hate is actually honest comments about a team that really hasn't done anything for 20 plus years.

Having said that, good for Faulk and good for Zeke for not being a know-it-all. I remember Bo Jackson saying he tried to reach out to Cam Newton, but he rejected him. You got to understand Bo; He is very standoffish and very choosy in who he associates with. So if he tries to reach out to you, that says something. And Cam ignored him.

You've got to have mentors. That's the sign of a mature man willing to grow into greater maturity.

This is a good step in the right direction.

Faulk is a class act, doesnt bother me a bit if Zeke takes his guidance.

Yes, he seems like a good guy. He's one of the best RB's I've ever seen and I'd take him over Barry Sanders any day of the week and wouldn't even bat an eye over it.

What I liked about Faulk is that he sustained his speed and quickness and used those to make himself into an electric runner who could turn his speed and quickness into power when needed. This beats the guys that try to win bodybuilding contests and gain too much mass and see initial gains in power, but see it sap their speed and quickness and then turn into being injury prone. If he can teach that to EE, we'll be in good shape.
