I was watching the NFL Network the other day and the Hard Knocks show featuring the Dallas Cowboys was on. It was interesting at the time, but watching it years later sheds a whole new light on things since you have information now which was not obvious at the time.

Marty B was often the focal point of the show. The other Garrett brother was constantly working with Marty B in an attempt to get him to do things the right way and to educate him on what he needed to do to be a success in this league. He offered encouragement to Marty B. throughout much of the instruction he was trying to pass on to Marty B.

It was obvious that Marty B. seemed frustrated and annoyed by the coaching efforts. He did not have the mental focus or "coachability" that you would expect a high draft pick to have. It was so obvious that you would think if the Cowboys had done their homework on him that they would have downgraded him significantly or taken him off the board all together.

I will give the Cowboys a pass for letting him slide through the draft process and drafting him, but the thing I can't really give them a pass on was not trading him to the Bengals when they offered a high draft pick for him. By that time they had to realize that his attitude and work ethic sucked and that he was not coachable.

The impact of missing on Marty B. most likely doomed the 12 package before it ever got off the ground. It just baffles me that they let him stick around and didn't trade him when they had the chance.

MartyB thought that he was better than Witten from day 1.

Then he goes to New York and has more TD's in a season than he had in his Cowboy career.

Not all his fault.

Why didn't they keep him?

Chicago gave him more money.

More accurately, the Giants offered him nothing.

And Chicago went nuts over Barber, Roy, and Hurd, too.

His cap hit is 1.94M for 2013. Are you saying that money was the sole reason that the Giants didn't re-sign him?

But hey, whatever. They diddnt want him and he clearly is getting paid nothing.

We should probably throw a few more 2nd round picks at the tight end position in hopes that the offensive coordinator might be able to put one of them in a position to succeed. There is absolutely no chance this player was poorly coached and under utilized here, and things will most definitely be different this time.

I guess I'll be the first to say it.

He was just a young kid like all other kids his age, right?

He grew tired of his role in Dallas quickly. He didn't care for having to block all the time and got frustrated that the ball never came his way. Because he was so good at blocking, Dallas had him babysit one of the tackles.

He had a betting QB throwing him the ball. :)

Laughable. He didn't beat out Witten. Who was the other starting TEs for Giants? Certainly not a pro bowler. If he was so great then why didn't the Giants resign him? Glad that bum isn't on Dallas any more.

4 years 20 million ring a bell?

Sure but the Giants never knocked before he had an offer.

Whatever you say. They re-signed other players first and were not going to match $10 million guaranteed any way.

The fact is that Garrett has never utilized the second tight end going back to Fasano in the high-flying highlight reel year of Jason Garretts career. Throwing second round picks on the field is useless if you dont have any clue about the 12 personnel besides "Hey that looks cool when Brady and Belichick do it"

Don't you think him becoming a starter rather than being 2nd string TE have something to do being more productive in NY?

Why has the 2nd tight end never been productive under Garrett? Is it going to magically change with some Patriots game tape and even more 2nd round picks?

Hi, Martellus. :laugh2:

The fact of the matter is the OP is right, from the top of his post to the bottom. Marty B stumped the 2TE set before it ever got off the ground. I was saying this before the draft when everyone was whining about the idea of taking Eifert. Of course, we didn't take Eifert, but my assessment still stands.
