Dallas most likely needs more cap space to sign him then they probably have right now. Maybe Dallas isn't close to what he knows he can get.

His performance didn't match his contract demands - at least IMO. Did he even have double digit sacks his last year here? Can't remember, but he was not THE D-Ware we knew and loved his last year here.

He had 6 in an injury-shortened season as a Defensive End full time for the first time since college.

He continued on to post 10 sacks in limited snaps for Denver the next year playing in his more familiar OLB role.

I think we eventually would have had to release Ware...maybe...but I think it would've been much better for us to continue to employ the 3-4 until we were ready to part ways with Ware entirely.

We don't need hardly any cap space to sign Martin long term

A 15m signing bonus would add about 2m to his cap hit year

He already has a 9.3m cap hit for next year and that will initially be turned into a large base like 14m but that will be restructured down to a 5-6m cap hit

2019 will also be restructured.......... the 10m+ hits won't come until 2020 at the earliest

That was the one caveat to drafting an Oline full of 1st round selections (that happened to pan out well) is that they are going to cost us in the long run.
Only difference is the first contract. If you grabbed a guy as an UDFA and he performed at all pro levels His next contract will be at all pro level.

Wrong.

Dallas never made an offer to DeMarcus Ware to take a pay cut because they didn't want to insult him with what could be perceived as a lowball offer.

Ware was willing to take less.

The Cowboys decided it was best to part ways and let Ware go find the best opportunity to reach a Super Bowl.

Well, I guess there's your version...and then I guess there's what really happened.

Ware reportedly wanted a decision made on his future before free agency began, and the Cowboys weren’t going to have him play on his current deal.

The Cowboys wanted to keep him for the 2014 season, but only at a reduced rate. His cap hit in 2014 would have been twice what it was the year prior. His base salary was just $840,000 and his cap hit was $8 million in 2013.

Per a source, former Pro Bowl defenseive end DeMarcus Ware doesn't want to take a pay cut but will listen to the Dallas Cowboys thoughts about a reduced deal.

As of last week, the Dallas Cowboys had not asked All-Pro pass rusher DeMarcus Ware to accept a pay cut.

That's no longer the case.

A person informed of the Cowboys' thinking has told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the team contacted Ware on Tuesday to pass along the message that they "definitely" want to keep him -- but not at his current salary of $13 million per year.

They could have restructured him and saved even more than cutting him and retained his services

Everyone thought (correctly) that he was done as a 4-3 DE with a 10m+ salary

Could have, but didn't. As always.

They asked him to take less. He declined. Sometimes that's just how it goes.
