This is ridiculous exaggeration. Martin threw up 29 reps at 225, which isn't that much fewer than Cooper. Martin also had better cone time than Cooper and a much, much better shuttle.
strength is very seldom measured in the bench press.
ask any olympic weight lifter.
bench press is effected at a ridiculous rate by arm length.
but when a guy has 33" arms and does 35 reps that's pretty insane. 29 reps IS substantially less than 35 tho still VERY good. ((I can do low 20s and believe that is along way from 29)
the real difference tho is in full body and core strength. the bench lets us know they can deliver a nasty punch which is really mandatory at tackle but lower body strength is key in driving guys out of the hole.
warmack was one of the best prospects in a decade in that area of pure raw strength.
cooper was considered an even better athlete and had a higher ceiling. both were rated as having hall of fame potential... which is why TWO pure guards went so high.
martin is not really very long and thus the desire of scouts to move him inside.
inside questions will be about his run blocking which was only adequate at ND.
he didn't dominate guys in the run game.
he was merely solid in that area and really played much like a pass blocking OT with shorter wingspan.
he also lacks OG experience.
this is a guy who has shot up boards lately but he's never been seen as a top10 prospect. .
warmack and cooper were and in fact both went top 10.
