Was there really a NFL player named Bill Shakespeare? That's just mean parenting.

True story, the Steelers coaches were told to draft someone whose name people would recognize.

Shakespeare never played for them. Instead he became a highly decorated WWII soldier.

Manster68 honest attempt:

Scott Appleton (Dallas drafted him in the first round in 1964, but that was after Bob Lilly and Lee Roy Jordan, so I think it would have to be an AFL team)
Jay Berwanger
Ronald Billingsley
Tony Boselli - Jacksonville Jaguars
Buck Buchanon - Dallas Texans (now KC Chiefs)
Adrian Burk
Ken Carpenter
David Carr - Houston Texans
Kerry Collins - Carolina Panthers
Johnny Drake
Bob Gaiters
Jim Grabowski
Bob Johnson
Leslie Kelly
Jim Lawrence
Russ Letlow
Art Lewis
Bob Lilly - DALLAS COWBOYS
Tommy Mason
Ron Mix - Los Angeles Chargers (now SD)
Joe Namath
Steve Niehaus
Tommy Nobis - Atlanta Falcons
Leo Nomellini - San Francisco 49ers
Jonathon Ogden - Baltimore Ravens
Jim Otto - Oakland Raiders
John Pitts
Lee Roy Selmon - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bill Shakespeare - Pittsburgh Steelers (I saw the earlier response)
Riley Smith
Joe Stydahar - Detroit Lions (???) educated guess
Sid Wagner

Okay, I'll now go into my NFL Record & Fact Book and see how I did.

Nope.

I miscounted. I got 12 right, not 11. These 11 and the Eagles pick which still has not been named. He was the 1st draft pick ever and the first Heisman Trophy winner. Hint, hint. That's why I knew his.

Kudos on knowing that the Cowboys also selected Scott Appleton.

I only could do about 11. I knew Adrian Burk (Eagles) and his 7 TDs in a game because of bar trivia.

Except that's wrong. Burk is not the Eagles first ever pick.

Doh! That's right he played for the Eagles when he did that but wasn't drafted by them. I just cheated and now know. I guess it was 10 for me then.

Just thought I'd point out something for trivia's sake.

6 teams very first draft pick ended up in the Hall of Fame. Cowboys, Buccaneers, Raiders, Jets, Patriots, and Bears.

Tommy Nobis should be inducted already.

Boselli and Ogden are the other best candidates.
