The questions asked to him on Tuesday after the first organized team activities (OTAs) were the same asked to him last spring.

“I can just repeat my answers from last year,” Johnson joked. “I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve been in a groove playing football really since my senior year in college. It’s just good to get back out there with the guys and compete and kind of gear up for a new season.”

He hopes the new season isn’t like the old season. The Cowboys have been extremely patient with Johnson, perhaps more than they should have been. Johnson understands the angst fans have toward him.

“I have to own it, there’s no other way,” Johnson said. “I’ve been hurt. I haven’t proven myself. I haven’t proven why they drafted me.”

He might be the only one who has any left..

It is what it is and I repeatedly forget he's even on the team. He will out of here by August

All Cowboy's fans need to hope he can stay healthy. There is no downside with Matt Johnson, only upside. If he get's hurt before the start of the season there is a 100% he is cut, otherwise he still healthy and finally gets to show what he is capable of.

I am a big Johnson detractor, however, I am willing to admit at this point there is costs the Cowboys nothing to see what happens.

I was glad we didn't draft any safeties this year because he's our ace in the hole.

He may be their most athletic safety. He also seems to have natural play-making skills. But....and we all know the "but"....and it's a huge one. lol

Real curious to see how it goes.

Even if he's healthy, all of the young guys that got thrown to the wolves a bit early last year, but gained valuable experience...plus drafting Ahmad Dixon...should make it tougher for him to make the team this go-around. They also brought in the rookie from Auburn, but I don't know much about him.

How many safeties will we keep?

Just hope he can stay healthy so we can get a real evaluation on him

I'm pulling for him, as everyone is, or should be. I agree, nothing to lose now, just as Spencer, if they can come back and play, there is only an upside. if not, they haven't played yet, so nothing different.
And at this point, they are not progress stoppers, there are other players there competing.

At this point, Johnson actually being a player in this league would be kind of like buying an extra value meal in the drive-through and discovering extra fries in your bag. Pleasant, yet unexpected.

Let's hope he plays. He's the only FS on this team, and playing 16 games would be huge for us.

They have plans for JJ Wilcox to be the FS and Jakar Hamilton is definitely a FS-can also play nickel cb.

JJ is our FS in Madden 25, so obviously he's capable of playing FS.

The odds of him staying healthy AND being a starter are stacked heavily against him unless we do like the last couple of years and everyone gets hurt......

I'm pretty stoked to finally see if MJ can back up some of the hopes the team obviously had for him when he was drafted. Even if he can't play, I just really want to see him get some time in the preseason games and see how he looks. He's looked pretty rangy to me in what little we've seen from him in camp. It'd be awesome if the guy can give us meaningful snaps this year, because we could really use a bluebird at the S position, finally. I'd also feel better about our scouts and coaches in his regard, since they have been very patient with this guy.
