Just firing up a new thread for the interested...
My thoughts on Game 1
Did the teams forget you have to play defense? Unreal how hard the scorekeeper had to work to run the clock.
Refs choked on the whistle last night for both teams. Not a lot of fouls for contact made. Since neither team is overly physical, I doubt there'll be alot of calls for contact. JMO.
Just a lil insider ref info: On plays where there's contact on a shot, but not overly hard and the basket is good, the refs are less inclined to call a foul. It's for game mgmt purposes. If the players misses the shot, then you'll prolly hear a whistle. Happened last night in the last few mins of the game when Nowitzki was barely bumped, but he missed the layup, so he gets the call. OTOH, there was a play on the Phoenix end where there was major contact, bodies falling everywhere, but the basket was good.
As a ref, I'd hate to call this series in any compacity. The way the teams ran last night, I bet all three refs were getting rehab today from camps. No matter how good the refs are conditioning wise in the NBA, no way they weren't dying at the end of last night. And I'm sure during one of those final timeouts, they said to each ohter "No overtime" Even tho the idiot blew his whistle at the .5 sec mark.
I think Avery's gonna chew the Mavs out for their play last night. They played well enuff to win, but no way they wanted to get into a shootout into with the Suns. They played their pace, not Dallas. They've gotten to tighten up their transition defense. Work harder on cutting off the Suns passing lanes in transition.
As for the Suns, I think they should continue pushing it. They're half court D is suspect. They're lucky the Mavs never made them pay whenever Nash was on Dirk when they would switch on picks. Suns have good shooters, but they can be streaky and they have no real inside game right now...
Interesting series for sure.
