Maybe a “Romo friendly” offense is not a “Dak friendly offense”?

This offseason we need to decide if Dak is the guy and if he is...we need to make this offense “Dak friendly”.

First, Dez has to go. This is the first time I have said this but it’s the truth. This is not a slight on Dez at all, I still think he is an outstanding receiver but he is not a fit for a Dak Prescott offense. Every QB has a type—-For example, Tom Brady typically has his most success with smaller, quicker receivers. Even though it may not seem like it now but Dak was successful last season with Cole Beasley being his primary receiver. We need more of that type of receiver—-receivers that rely on quickness to get open and do not force Dak to throw into so many tight windows. The positive thing about this is that these types of receivers don’t always warrant a premier draft pick.

Secondly—-Jason Witten has to go. I am the biggest Witten fan but what does he do good? His route tree is predictable, he doesn’t have RAC ability and his blocking is below average. He’s a great leader and can still get open on 5 yrs routes but unless he accepts a lesser role like Antonio Gates, he needs to go. I am beyond sick of seeing teams let him get wide open underneath on third down knowing he will be an easy tackle. I want an athletic tight end that can make some plays down field. Watching the Vikings game and seeing Rudolph run after the catch and even beat someone for a route longer than 6 yards made me really realize what we are missing from the TE position.

It goes without saying we need defensive help but that goes for any QB. Lastly—-we need a coach that has the creativity to bail his offense out when they have a bad day but I don’t want this to be a Garrett bashing thread. Maybe a better coach could even make Dez or Williams fit Dak’s style more with their route tree but that’s another discussion.

Jason Garrett, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and Terence Williams—-these guys would’ve been fine with Romo at QB...guess what? He’s not and it’s time to make some hard decisions if we want Dak Prescott to be our franchise QB. It shouldn’t take overwhelming physical talent for a QB to be successful in this league but it does take a structure around a player to maximize their strengths and hide their weaknesses. Take Case Kennum for example, does anyone really think Keenum is more physically gifted than Dak? Nope but he’s surrounded by offensive players that bring out the best in him...and he’s gonna get paid a ton of money to start on a team without that talent next season and probably fail.

Your on point with this! I was just saying all of this to my boy today. I I also think the HC & OC don't know how to use him to his best capabilities. He has alot of potential but also can be ruined like David Carr was in Houston if this garbage continues!

I was just writing a post on the deep in's toTWill in the 4th had us finally moving the ball between the 20's

. Dak needs what I call a Move wr.....not a throw up a contested back shoulder WR.............Disappointed B.Butler has been relagated to the woodshed---is that Dak or the coaches?...........

Dak does need a TE that sucks safety's to him like a magnet, but what QB doesnt........

Noticed that with Tyron back in...Witten was active on short routes, we actually had a Beasley sighting, but Dez was virtually relagated to up routes along the sidelines once again........wasnt targeted till nearly halftime.........

there is no flow in the game Linehan is calling inside garretts scheme........its scattershot.

Do you know why Dak is more successful with smaller quick receivers like Beasley? Because Dak is checking down constantly and/or the staff is calling these short pass plays because they have no confidence in their QB to deliver.

Building an offense to a limited QB's skills is a terrible idea.

You change the QB.

Bill O'Brien is a far superior HC to Garrett. Yes, he made the mistake of starting Savage in week 1 but then he realized it and went with Watson. But he also adjusted the offense to fit Watson's skillset and that involved more Read Option. They ended up having one of the best offenses in the league before Watson got hurt...and this with an OL that looked terrible in week 1.

We ran a "Dak friendly offense".

That means Ezekiel Elliott playing.

Even with Elliott, it did not seem like the receiving core was making any special plays. Opposing defenses respected us more which in turn helped Dak but rarely did you see Witten turning his 5 yard passes into 15 yards or Dez running free over the middle in the zones where Dak has his most success throwing? I would be willing to wager that our RAC minus TWill’s big day has to be near the bottom of the league. Part of that is on Dak but a lot of it is the players and the offensive design.

they should have thought about that before they axed the player they'd built their offense around

Many successful offenses rely heavily on the short to moderate passing game. I would even venture to say that Tom Brady made millions playing that style especially earlier in his career where he didn’t throw the ball as well deep.

lol, ALL passing offenses rely heavily on short to medium range throws. However, successful ones are better on deeper plays than we are.

I posted this point 2 weeks ago. Dak's strength as a passer is not same as Romo's strength as a passer.
Dak's best throws are to the middle of the field and not the sidelines. Romo's was the opposite.

We need a coach that actually schemes to the talent of his players. This isn't the 90s where you can stack your team full of talent and just let those guys go out there and run simple plays and have them win. One or two injuries and the next offseason will completely wreck your plans if you attempt that.

Trade Dez for a sixth rounder and sign Jarvis Landry.

I entirely agree——we need that as well.

Sometimes a receiver and a QB takes awhile to build chemistry or they never fit.

Jimmy Graham was a hall of faker for the Saints...for the seahawks? Not so much.

This doesn't even look like the same team that played Wash and KC 3 weeks ago.

They gave Dak more of the playbook this offseason, but it was Romo's, not Daks. Outside of Zone Read this offense is meant for a precision passer and all WR's being in a spot at a particular time lol. Throw the ball and they will be there blind folded. That's why Dak has not looked the same all season. He needs coaching and an offense built for him!!

Has nothing to do with Dak. Have you been watching the games?

the qb needs the wr to be 3 feet away from a defender and in his viewing area that he is staring down or he can't get him the ball.

its not about a system. its about a quarterback who is struggling as bad as matt cassell two years ago.

You’re obviously not even close to being the “biggest Witten fan”. No cred after that bombshell.
