These games are determined by backups. With all the money locked up in starters, and little left for the backups, it stands to reason that we'll lose most pre-season games. No biggie. But Ellis' little rant validated the naysayers, or that something was "amiss." We know we have the physical talent to win 12+ games; I'm worried about the mental makeup of the team.
ellis little talk I think was because the team was un enthused. then after the james penalty I think they were un-enthused and frustrated. It was kind of like look we have to go back out there and stop them just to shake this off, we have to play this game so we had better be more focused. And oh by the way they got stops in the next two series, and really they had a stop on that second series.
much like the packers game last year, the third down penalties led to continued drives which then resulted in TD's. that is a concern we should all have, preseason or not.
I think alot of that was fatigue and the guys just wanting to get out of there. they had better be focused friday night because houston has two capable qb's who will throw it down the field and also have a strong running game.
I mean you can worry about the mental makeup of the team, there is small concern there I dont doubt that one bit. Its just, for me its hard to tell in that situation, I really didnt see anything last night that would make me say oh no here we go. I didnt see the goofing off on the sideline or the celebrating and taunting that you find in that scenario. It also has to be hard to go out and play when you have a crutch of not doing anything but sitting back and being reactive on defense.
had james not been flagged for a silly penalty that is the end of that drive and we end up with great field position. I just think it is really hard to determine anything about the team at this point.
