Maybe the Commanders should have drafted a QB instead of keeping Cousins

Imagine the firestorm around here if Dak ever said this...how can a professional NFL team keep a QB that has no confidence? We are going to whoop some Commander *** Sunday.

exactly why cousins main weapon is a RB aka 5 yards or less pass.

I still can't believe some think he's a top 10 QB. lol

He's not but he isn't bad either and he's definitely better than about half the league starters. If he comes up for bidding he will command a fortune not because he is great but because he isn't too bad and a team could win a lot of games with him. About half the league would kill to have him over what they do now. And truly there aren't many options for the skins unless they want to start over by drafting a another rookie, which will of course cost them an entire draft of picks again and probably amount to a lost season or two awaiting the rookie to come around.

He's average as I've always said. Sure he's better than some but that isn't saying much.

The guy has next to nothing around him. Bad oline, no running game, no #1 or #2 WR.

His TE injures himself when he sneezes. The only weapons he has is a 3rd down back and slot WR.

I don't think he is a great player, but he is not a bad one either.

The Broncos should make a play for him this off season in my opinion.

Cousins is just a slightly above average QB that found himself in a good situation in Washington. Next year he will take his good luck out west.

The Commanders are in an awkward position. I don't know what they should do with Cousins. He isn't a bad QB but he isn't a great QB and shouldn't be paid too QB money.

They are a middle of the road team who could contend with a few more pieces. Giving up Cousins would cripple the team unless they are lucky enough to catch lightening in a bottle and find their Dak.

On the other hand if they pay Cousins (which they will have to do to keep him) they are stuck with a mid tier QB with a huge chunk of their cap going forward tied up in him.

It's really a tough spot for them to be in.

I dont think Cousins wants to be there.

He might not even return their calls this coming offseason

Money will make him listen. It may not result in a contract but he will listen.
Problem is he will have other teams offering as much if not more than Washington. Washington has very little control in that another tag would be a massive cap hit and he has little reason to reup with them before FA starts.

They may not have completely burned the bridge, but odds are he is playing elsewhere next season

That's true. I'm just focusing on this from the Commanders point of view since they are in our division. I really think this Cousins deal is problematic for them.

They will likely win just enough games to draft around the middle of the pack unless they Tank.

They should have resigned them when they could have IMO. There is a reason guys like Ryan Tannihill, Joe Flacco, Tyrod Taylor, Andy Dalton and Alex Smith get extentions. Its so hard to find NFL starter talent at the position, even middling start talent. And if you dont have it, you arent winning and you are hoping to hit the lottery in the draft.

2011 draft is a great example IMO. A couple of good QB's went in the top 35, Newton at 1 and Dalton at 35. Between them Jake Locker went 8th, Blane Gabbert went 10th and Christian Ponder went 12th. Missing on those guys sets your franchise back years

Yes, that's true. But he wanted more money than they were willing to pay him. I'm not sure which was the right way to go.

Cousins is every bit as good as Flacco, and Flacco won a SB but has done nothing since. Trent Dilfer won a SB too. It's about the pieces you put around him.

If Tom Brady makes $20 million per year hypothetically is Cousins worth half that? Probably so. But what if you have to pay $18 million for a guy half as good as Brady.

Plus you are stuck with a guy you aren't really confident in that probably can't get you to a super bowl and keeps you stuck in mediocrity.

I'm not saying one is any better than the other, but right now they are pretty much ****ed after this year if Cousins walks unless they draft the next Watson.

And unless you are bad enough to get a #1 pick, maybe 2 in a good QB draft you have little control over who you can actually draft at QB. Thats why you see teams trading up to take players like Trubisky, Watson and Mahomes

Personally I think Cousins is an excellent game manager. He is a great QB until he hits the redzone, but he has nevee been a good short field QB. Consider that he had nearly 5,000 yards last season and completed 67% of his passes but only had 25 TD's. That validates the eyeball test that his ability wanes in the redzone.

I think Jacksonville is a great spot for him. He would have a great defense that is good enough to be a driving force behind wins. He also has two very talent runners in Fornette and Yeldon, who can take over in the red zone
