Mayowa Benched

Not a big deal. Not a lot of money. I think all teams have these misses. You have to roll the dice on occasion and try to find the players who are possibly on the verge of breaking out.

Who knows? Maybe the benching will light a fire under him.

I know we don't have a whole lot to get excited about on the D-Line but at least some guys have shown up even if it's just 1 or 2 games. I honestly don't remember one play he's been involved in. We at least have seen the other guys do something. At this point, There 's not much they can do that's going to make a difference but I'm definitely good with this decision.

Could have been a numbers thing, and someone had to be inactive. As being short on DB's, we kept an extra active. and it turned out we needed him too when Scandrick went out.

Would you rather Dallas miss on a guy in free agency that they signed to a $10 million/year contract? That seems to happen annually. The New York Giants spent a fortune on their DL and are apparently last in the league in sacks. It's easy to recover from a $3.3 million signing bonus. They are spending close to that to keep Darren McFadden on the back burner as insurance.

The team will likely fill out their pass rush with mid-range free agent gambles and high round picks. It's just the way it is. Cincy has a great front four and they will miss the playoffs. New England gets rid of their big ticket pressure guys before paying them. Many ways to skin the cat.

I really pray that Dallas will at least attempt to get a legit, proven pass rusher in here over the off-season. This "by committee" stuff doesn't work.

We could be a scary team if get a consistent pass rush.
Agreed. We need more than one consistent pass rusher though, if we really want this D to improve.

Low risk signing. Looks like it won't pan out. Oh well.

It's clear what needs to happen this off season.

The Cowboys need to draft a pass rushing DE in the 1st and 4th and sign a tier 2 FA.

Those 3 additions (or possibly more) plus what we have coming back should make a improvement next year.

I'm more disappointed in Mayowa. Dallas paid decently for him to at least be a rotation player. Thornton isn't starting but he's a major part of the rotation.
I agree with this. Mayowa has been disappointing so far, but it isn't like they paid him top money. They took a chance with a below mid-level player contract and are losing so far. The possible reward was worth the risk IMO

Can't even cut him this offseason. The cap savings is only $400K and there is a $2.2MM dead money hit.
If you can't produce then you can't produce. If they are willing to sit him on the bench then I can't see why we wouldn't eat 2 million dollars of dead money.

It's dead weight either way.

I don't get why people are surprised or disappointed. Mayowa was a gamble but not an expensive one. His cap hit is less than JJ Wilcox and only 500K more than Alfred Morris.

DLaw regained his health and we moved Tyrone Crawford to SDE. Even if Mayowa was playing the way the team expected he still wouldn't be starting.

Thornton has actually been improving each week. I like the signing actually

And no one expected McClain to be our best DT and beat out Thornton, if that hadn't happened Thornton would be starting and likely playing well. Or at a minimum, playing much better than Hayden did at the 1T.
