and couldn't get a first down from 2 yards.

Maybe we should keep playing JJ early in game as MB3 is definitely much better once the defense is already worn down.

Marion is still the better back. Jones did a good job but if I had to take one over the other Marion is the man.

I really like Barber but share the view we also need another RB to go with him. Now the question is whether that player is JJ. I just feel we need get a little more punch in our rushing game. Now maybe it is simply that our OL is a better pass protector then rushing. Presumably that should be easy to fix. OTHO, I really think we need a quicker RB with better vision, etc., then JJ but definitely keep MBIII.

That did surprise me a little, but you'll have that sometimes.

I still like MB3 in any short yardage or goal line situation.

It was also nice to see JJ get a short yardage TD too.

yes, I thopught the coaches showed us right there with mb3 running early in the game that we need both of these guys. Our rushing production is way up there(I think meybe we are 3rd or 4th in league) and neither guy has really had to light it up.

All in all, I thought it was a good eye opener for this board :)

I wonder if this ever happened to Emmitt, Barry, or Ladainian.

Nah. Couldn't have.

Agreed. Maybe we should give the blocking or lack of blocking some of the blame. I htink MBIII has broken PLENTY of tackles in the first half of games.

Doesnt concern me, that was early in the game. The whole team was still sleep walking at that point. No one seemed to wake up until the Romo run.

he sure looks like a lot different back when he is playing early in the game in 'Julius Time' though.

Don't get me wrong, I think we need both of them and each has his own strnegths and weaknesses. From what I have seen:

Julius:
strengths-early game grinding it out three yards and cloud of dust runs, pass protection blocking pickups, catching

weaknesses-easier to tackle, health/concussions, psychological(gets too down and up) according to his carries

MB3:
strengths-physical punishment running style, breaking tackles, finishing off a defense

weaknesses-non-disciplined running early in game, catching

1st Half Stats

Julius Jones - 28 carries for 73 yards (2.6 YPC)
Marion Barber - 18 carries for 67 yards (3.7 YPC)

Running on a team in the first half is tough no matter who you are. But Barber does do it better than Julius.

Admittedly, our entire team looks different in the first half - during "Julius time".

Eh, they both did little yesterday until the game was well in hand. Not sure there is a reason for a Barber/Jones debate this week.

Based on those stats, neither are very strong. Maybe it is our line.

I wonder why the coaching staff would historically run Julius about twice as much as Barber in the first half of games so far this year then?

Maybe you should let Garrett and Wade in on your secret :)

I think everyone wonders why they continue to sit Barber. Maybe it's an irrational adherence to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality. The good thing is that after 4 games, the carries are almost exactly 50/50.

I haven't tallied, but I would bet that 50/50 for carries is about

1st half:
75%Julius
25%Barber

2nd half:
25% Julius
75% Barber

I really think the answer is that Julius is a much more disciplined runner that will go ahead and take that 2 yards that is often all that is available on those early game runs whereas Barber will bounce in and out and is at higher risk of ending up with nothing on those early runs.

Anyone consider that the Rams might be decent against the run?
