McCarthy gives his Top 5 QB list

Well what's more weird the three of those guys on that list have changed teams that changed the narrative on their careers?

Seems to be having a lot more and realize that teams aren't developing players not just quarterbacks but they give up on players too soon..

I mean he was on a playoff team with the Giants a couple years back He just wasn't playing at this level but It is what it is we'll see at the end of the year 'cause these lists don't matter right now.

the NFL has a way of balancing these things out after seventeen games...

Maybe it’s coaches being stubborn forcing their system on a player that doesn’t play to that individuals strengths. Scheme is important.

It's so weird to see Daniel Jones' name on any of these lists.
Sometimes it's the system that a quarterback plays in that defines how well they perform.

Of course surrounding them with good/great players helps as well, but more often than not the system plays a big part in the outcome.

Who knows if Jones will continue playing well all season, but if he does it will hopefully be a wake-up call for coaches to start molding their systems around what the players they have do best rather than trying to force them into one they that they don't or can't.

I know it's a funny list but it's based off right now, who's playing the best. Not who you think the best QBs are in the league.
Exactly and the same people said nothing when Dak was ranked in the 20s (on various lists) based off being injured last season, and not playing great before hand. Hypocrites.

I mean Darnold and Mayfield have been doing well, ever since they left the dump that drafted them. Would say as long as the QB puts in the effort and doesn't rest on their "gifts", there may be more that simply just need the right system to be successful. Just need to hope to find that place/that place needing a QB.

Carolina had Mayfield line up on defense... Maybe he doesn't do what he has done without Evans and Godwin(out now) but the man has played very well once he got comfortable in that offense.

I agree with this completely.

I take it as a call out of Brian Daboll who forced Daniel Jones into a system he was not best equipped to operate rather than molding the Giant's system around what Jones could do best.

I'm glad to see the Colts doing otherwise.

It's a fair assessment. I'd list Mahommes ahead of Jones but if the criteria is performance this season, the gap is marginal. Mahommes has more TDs, Jones has a higher quarterback rating. All of these guys are performing out of their minds this year.

I know it may sound weird but I tend to root for guys who struggle with one team when they find success with another.

I did that with Joe Flacco a couple of years ago in Cleveland and even Jared Goff in Detroit back when he was traded.

This year I've been keeping up with Daniel Jones and now hoping to see Flacco do well with the Bengals since he was just traded, though their offensive line will likely prevent that.

Now, I don't want those teams to beat or hurt the Cowboys in any way of course, but it's enjoyable to see players written off by the media and fans do well when put in better situations.

What YOU talking about???? Are you out of the loop? Been watching Any Given Sunday too many times???? Your avatar.

Dak is definitely in most people's Top 5. Only thing I would change is put Mahomes ahead of Jones but the others is usually most people's Top 5 up until this point.

Those are two more great examples!

The media was starting to use the "bust" label on both of those guys and now look at what they are doing.

QB's are dependent on the talent around them. It is not the other way around.

QB's do not carry teams.
Umm?

Insofar as *any* player on a team of 53 can carry the team, it would be the QB that could do it and there have been examples of when a QB simply refused to lose and the team followed behind him.

Can 52 carry 1? Sure, but that’s an entirely different discussion
