McClay on changes to the draft board at DE going from a 4-3 to a 3-4

Pretty obvious some mocks get his attention ..........

BTW......Never thought this before, but I am 100% confident someone (staff, relatives) inside Jerry's circle has an account on this board.
Yeah right. If that were the case, the organization probably would have had more success than not the last few years, based on taking better advice from some fans that could do a better job running the team than the FO.

Mclay is in year 10 !!! no CCG or SB apppearances, 3 playoff wins, what a joke . Average results and several busts. Not sure why he is kept there. Probably Jerry does not want him to start talking about the mess in the cowboys FO . So he keeps him around and silent.

Broaddus had an account here back when he worked in the Cowboys media dept.

I think his username was Pro Scout or something like that.
I wish he was still here, and I think there are some knowledgeable football fans on this site, and most have a good idea of what needs to be done by this front office. In the recent past common-sense decisions have failed to get done, as a result Dallas has not been a top team on all 3 sides of the football, and have failed to compete with top NFL football teams. Common sense just isn't common with Ol Jerry and Son. I will say that since the hiring of Brian Schottenheimer we have improved it would seem in the commonsense department. Football is not rocket science, hire a good coaching staff and find the football players that fit the scheme, and put these players in the best positions to succeed. It is my opinion that someone within this organization that actually knows football have been given a bigger voice in football decisions. The good decisions that I speak of in my opinion started when Dallas traded Micah Parsons and acquired Kenny Clark and shortly, they're after traded for Quinnen Williams. This defensive tackle group is the strength of this defense and through Mr. common sense himself, Brian Schottenheimer Dallas also has the coaching staff to get the best out of this defense going forward. Now watch the next crucial football decisions that are made going forward, if they look to be of the commonsense variety, then as a fan of The Dallas Cowboys we can indeed be optimistic that a football mind is finally in charge of our beloved organization.

McClay made a comment a few years back.

He said they were changing they way the looked at prospects.
As some of the coaches, looked at athletes so they could conform them to the style of play on defense and schemes.
But then when MM came in, it was they would find athletes period, and adapt the scheme to their strengths.
That did not happen either.

Now it seems they just want players that can actually play?

We will see what happens. Seems basically the look for players that are told to look for, and not necessarily just dawgs that can flat out play.
Good post Jazzcat22, I think the eyes that look for the talent you speak of, has recently improved in spades, and are actually being listened to more and will be given a bigger voice to the talent added to this football team. There is not a doubt in my mind that this coaching staff is full of teachers that want to teach the game of football and know what kind of players they want, to teach.

We traded for Williams, Clark, and Pickens; along with falling into Lamb and Parsons, but we as an organization know all about the draft! COMICAL

that's all I want too, but Quinn wanted certain traits in a player like for his CB's to be big etc, can we just get guys that can play, guys that love football, are dedicated etc etc etc
Good post Coogi, these new coaches that were just hired will help in this regard if their voices are heard. I believe they will be heard and I think Dallas will improve because of this.

I just heard on fish that quinns pick nashon wright the tall cb that flopped here with cowboys, was on chicago last year and made all pro team, and got a lot of turnovers last year.
So he was right about him, but didnt know how to develop or use him.

Al Harris was the DB coach here and now he's DB/Passing Game Coor. with the Bears. It just took Wright that long to develop. But he didn't make an all pro team. He was an alternate at the Pro Bowl replacing Quinyon Mitchell.

If that’s the case. I just want them to know that I mean every word I’ve said about Jerry and Stephen and how incompetent and narcissistic they are.

If he was here he wouldn't have been doing all that

Correct. The defense is a 4/3 base with a 3/4 pass rush. See the Phillips 3/4 and Parcells 3/4 who did not have a big NT but 4-3 guys that were 6-4-6-6 285-305 and pass rushed the OLBs that where 6-3-6-4 235-255 but still play the run in a 4-3 base.

I'm having trouble picturing DEs playing a 6 technique in a 3-4 scheme without chuckling. Is it normally done that way? That just sounds too wide.
