Feeley to get start vs. Ravens while McNabb sits out

It's a new season for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, but it will pick up where last season ended -- on the bench.

McNabb, recovering from surgery on his right knee, will not play Monday when the Eagles open their preseason with a game in Baltimore against the Ravens. McNabb hasn't played in a game since he tore a ligament against the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 19.

A.J. Feeley is scheduled to start for the Eagles and Kelly Holcomb will play the second quarter. Rookie Kevin Kolb is slated to play the second half.
When asked whether there was anything that McNabb wasn't able to do in camp that prevents him from playing in the game, Eagles coach Andy Reid said: "I really think he worked very well. He seems strong. I'd rather just start him off at our place, on grass, if possible."

But the artificial SportsTec field at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore was ranked better last year in a players survey -- in fact, it was rated fifth best in the NFL. The grass field at Lincoln Financial Field was ranked 23rd.

McNabb was having another solid season before he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against the Titans last season. The five-time Pro Bowler was second in the NFL with 2,534 yards passing, tied for second with 17 touchdown passes, and sixth with a 96.6 passer rating.

McNabb has had three major injuries in the last five seasons. He missed the final seven games of the 2005 season with a sports hernia, and in 2002 missed the final six regular-season games with a broken ankle.

ESPN reporter Sal Paolantonio and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Maybe McNabb will be like George Brett and sit out the season with hemorrhoids. :)

If Kolb were starting could you imagine the QB controversy hype in Philly?

Im interested to see how his flexibility and mobility are effected. Without his mobility is just another QB with a good arm but suspect accuracy and so-so decision making. its those runs on 3rd and 5 or greater that make him a good QB.

I don't think any team's starters should be in a pre-season game against the Ravens' defense. I'm sure the Eagles only play them because the travel is cheap.

I see this as ...protecting a commodity that would otherwise be jeopardised in a pre-season game. Plenty of time to get McNabb, and Kolb into the swing of things before the regular season.

Feeley knows the Eagles playbook better than any other Eagles' backup QB ...he'll do finew. In fact, I wouldn't be surprises if Kolb didn't get some touches against B-More.

Two things I'm looking at ...

1) Running game

2) DL execution/penetration

I would like to see the rest of the survey.

I read something about how Kolb was booed at training camp.

Maybe they just hate quarterbacks?

McNugget is actually doing the smart thing, you can't rush back from a serious knee injury. They would prefer him to come back when he's close to 90% healthy.

So since you seem to have forgotten you said you would stay

did you also forget how to read

you know where it said Kolb was slated to play the entire second half

Wouldn't that classify as playing against B-more?

Or was that your intelligent talk for starting the regular season?

When it comes to commodities, i'd rather have a 5lb block of Indian reservation cheese.

The cheese will back you up but it won't puke on you.

I wonder if the Eagles are planning on keeping 4 QB's. It would seem Kelly Holcomb would be the odd man out.

Brad Johnson or Kelly Holcomb?

I expect they are waiting for a training camp injury to up the ante on QB trades. Or for Atlanta to get real nervous. I guess they could carry 4 QBs, but that would be ba.. goood for them, yeah, good going Eagles!
