A typical Ford Mustang GT costs about $30,000. Now a custom carmaker is transforming 45 of those regular Mustangs into $90,000 hand-built Iacocca Edition Mustangs.
Galpin Motors, the Los Angeles dealership selling these cars, is well known for custom cars. This model aims to commemorate the role legendary auto executive Lee Iacocca played in creating the original Mustang in 1964.

For three times the cost of a regular V8 Mustang, the Iacocca Mustang is equipped with a 4.6-liter 300-horsepower engine, just like a stock 2009 Mustang GT, but with Ford's Racing Handling suspension package. Performance options include a Ford Racing brake upgrade, a Cold Air Kit that boosts horsepower to 320 and a supercharger that boosts horsepower to 400.

"The majority have sold with the supercharger and brake upgrades," said Terry Miller Galpin general sales manager.

With those options, the price rises to $105,000.

But this car really isn't about raw performance. In this case, the price has much more to do with exclusivity and style than just smoking the tires. Only 45 of the cars will be made and it takes a long time to make them.

Not everyone is convinced these cars are worth the money but, then again, fewer than four dozen people will need convincing.

75 grand for 100 more HP, and a racing suspension?

Anyone who buys one is an idiot.

Anyone who buys it has cash to throw away.

The big selling point is there are only 45 to be made

I agree with the first part, but the second still doesn't make sense. I could buy the same stock mustang, put a series of parts on it that only I choose, and there would probably still only be a handful of them just like mine in the world.

I'd have 600 horsepower and still pocket 50 grand.

Just because its rare, doesn't mean its valuable.

Not exactly true if you ever watch the car auction of classic car models that were produces in limited quantity cost. It is not about the horse power hell for that type of cash there are other options out there and while you can add part to make yours special but these car will have special markings and registered to show that the car the person bought is one of 45. The buyers are not avg wage earners by any means. I would add the buyer of these cars likely will never have them on the streets to begin with. Yes Rare makes it valuable not saying I would buy it then again I don’t have that type of cash

Hell, for around 60 grand, the folks at Hennessey will build you a supercharged 2010 Camaro SS that puts out around 560 HP and will eat the Mustang being discussed here for breakfast...

We're talking 4.1 seconds to go from 0-60, 12.1 seconds in the quarter mile at 119 MPH... on street tires...

http://www.hennesseyperformance.com...oThis=Chevrolet+Camaro+(2010)&ActionReq=Where

For 110 grand, you can upgrade to the HPE700, which puts out 705 HP... it also adds and adjustable coil-over suspension, and Corvette Z06 carbon brakes...

There will only be 24 of them built, 11 have already been sold...

http://www.hennesseyperformance.com...oThis=Chevrolet+Camaro+(2010)&ActionReq=Where

They also have 800 HP and 1000 HP twin turbo versions on the drawing board...

With all the options it's $105,000?

You can get a 2002 Ferrari 360 Modena F1 with 2,300 miles for $106,000.

Mustangs are awesome. Definitely, my favorite car. One day, I hope to have, either, an Audi or Mustang GT.

LOL. Yeah. I know ALL about classic cars dude. Trust me. That's my car in my avatar. But there is WAY more to it than a car just being rare. Especially when your talking about a brand new car that another company is buying and tweaking. Trust me, in 10 years that mustang will fetch about 10 grand more than what a regular 2009 mustang will bring in.

Hey, I know where you can get a 725 HP 2001 John Lingenfelter widebody Corvette, one of only five built, for 130k... it'll do 205 MPH... has a twin turbo aluminum 427, and believe it or not, is an automatic...

I wont ever own anything from them. Their stuff breaks down more then females do during their "happy" time of the month. Might as well wait and get a warrentied 550 HP camaro cuz the Z28 is back on track :D

http://jalopnik.com/5364503/gm-reportedly-calls-game-on-for-supercharged-550hp-camaro-z28

According to Edmunds Inside Line's Dan Pund, GM is relighting the fires on the Chevy Camaro Z/28, the supercharged, LSA-powered, 550HP tire-liquefying mega mullet machine. No details yet on timing but Wert's just passed out from joy.
